Hi tiggy44,is it your 1st visit or have you been here before? I have been to the Giants Causeway quite a few times,I say its a must if your visiting N,Ireland but as Spanishlady said, wrap up well! There are also Dunluce Castle,Carrickarede rope bridge,Mussenden Temple to see in & around that area...The Causeway Hotel is on the Giants Causeway & a lot of visiters stay there...you can get a double room for £52.50 per person per night with breakfast & evening meal included...the food is great there...While in Belfast you could visit the City Hall,Grand Opera House & The Crown bar(the oldest pub in Belfast)they are all close by & within walking distance...If staying near Bangor The Old Inn Crawfordsburn is also a lovely place to stay or visit...feel free to PM me if you need anymore info & I will try & help...

Cathy...

Hi Tiggy
While I agree that the Giants Causeway is worth a visit there are other areas in NI equally beautiful and if you are staying at Dundonald you will be very near one of them - the gorgeous Strangford Lough.Travel to Newtownards and take the loughside road to Portaferry, stop for coffee and a look at Mountstewart House (National Trust) and its lovely gardens, pass through the pretty village of Greyabbey and visit the ruined abbey nearby. Have lunch in the Saltwater Brig outside Kircubbin - roaring fires and good home cooking - then on to Portaferry where you can visit the Aquarium if you wish then take the ferry across to Strangford (Chocolate box perfect) where you can have a drink in The Cuan or a meal in the Lobster Pot. Nearby you have Castleward (another National Trust property and my personal favourite)
If you visit don't miss the walk from the bottom gate to Audleys Castle where you will get stunning views of the lough. Then back through Downpatrick (you can visit St Patrick's grave at the cathederal, or take a tour of the old jail, stop for a pint or meal at Denvirs (an old coaching inn)take a walk beside the Quoil river, or visit Inch Abbey.
Probably too much for one day but I wanted to give you a flavour of this beautiful area (where I am lucky enough to live)and there is tons more ! Delamont Country Park, Killyleagh Castle(like something from Disney only much older)Tyrella beach, the lighthouse at St John's point, the food at Curran's at Chapeltown! Pm me if you want more info or directions. I just feel that everyone heads for the Causeway and misses other good bits!
And then there is good old Belfast itself - great shopping, food, pubs, music and theatre. Take a bus tour to orientate yourself. You will want to come back!
