Dry tickly cough cures please!
      #151848 - 19/07/2008 21:31

What is the cure for a dry tickly cough, ok in the day generally then starts around 7pm and continues all night. It all started with a sore throat which lasted 2 days then the cough came and has been present for 7 days. At the moment i'm attempting to sleep at night propped up on 4 pillows because as soon as i lie down its ten times worse, have tried a couple of linctus's and soothers but not much good, does any one know how long this is going to persist for?

Drambuie, with lots of ice. It cools the throat, the alcohol anaesthetises it, it's thick enough to coat the throat and it tastes good.

Seriously, it worked for me.

And make sure your bedroom isn't too dry. A large bowl of water (not a vase, you want a big surface area) really makes a difference to the atmosphere

So,sorry to hear you are unwell.Molly

I'm afraid these types of coughs have a nasty habit of being
very persistent.

I know that it is July!!,but have you got your heating on at all? This could be drying up the atmosphere. A bowl of cold water by the radiator may overcome this.

I was in hospital last year and had the same thing, eventually nurse appeared by my bed with a small plastic container which had very warm Benylin in it.(To my knowledge nothing else,)and that certainly did the trick.

At home I use Vick on my chest and throat, plus lavendar spray on my pillow. It usually works as well.

Get better soon

My gran's cure.

Thinly slice one large onion. Cover in brown sugar, and leave to stand for a couple of hours. Strain off the liquid, and take a teaspoonful as required.

One teaspoon is enough - it is so foul you'll never cough again in case she made you have more
