I was given this advice a few weeks ago and it's obvious really and so true. 'Nothing changes if nothing changes' - it's fast becoming my mantra. If you make just small changes in your life then bigger changes can follow. Eating slowly and conciously are the two changes I find the most difficult. Even after over 100 days, I still find myself rushing meals occasionally and I must say that when I do, I tend to feel uncomfortably full yet not 'satisfied'. By not taking the time to enjoy what I'm eating, I feel 'cheated'. I haven't enjoyed the full flavours of the food - just rushed it down. Maybe 'must try harder' should be my other mantra Anne xx

Hi anne, this is so true,
another version is-
If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you have always got.
I find it difficult to eat slowly too, Ive always rushed my food, even when I was little.
I try to put my knife and fork down between each mouthful, it feels daft but it does make me more conscious of what I am doing.
We could imagine that we are all sat round a table together, watching, making sure that we are all eating slowly, would that work? I will try it and see!

Good advice Anne and MJM. I've always eaten far too quickly - still do, but it's something I'm working on. Some of it is down to often eating 'on the run', some down to being busy - so, making the food and eating it quickly because there are other things I should be doing - but otherwise it's just a bad habit.
PMK talks about this, doesn't he - about savouring each (small) mouthful and not rushing your meal.

I'm trying to work hard on this too - and it is worth doing, because you enjoy your food so much more. I find that closing your eyes while you chew helps too - perhaps not if you're with oother people (except us!).
Realised this morning that I'm MUCH fitter - did 30 lengths without getting tired, had to stop because of time - that's 900m so I've nearly caught up with SL! Also wore a close fitting top which now looks good and formerly tight jeans which I keep having to hoick up - so don't know about the weight, but my shape has certainly changed!

Hi Alex and Val, Ive just had my peanut butter sandwich with my eyes closed and it really does help.
Well done with the swimming Val, I bet you feel great after doing that dont you, and hoiking up jeans is always a good sign, brilliant.

Today I'm reading some of the posts on the forum between mouthfuls of my couscous salad - certainly slows my eating down! I've found I'm eating slower at home - OH often finishes before me now which never happened before. I've also got trousers that are looser than before - one pair I can slide down over my hips without undoing them and a few short months ago they were tight!

Hi girls, I'm back. Thank you so much, AlexP and mjm, for your good wishes for yesterday. I was really touched that even though I wasn't here you were still thinking about me. We had a wonderful day, and the sun shone, which fitted nicely with yesterday's post! Hope you're having better weather today, valaber.
It's interesting that you're talking about changes, anne1005, because last night I had a major change. Many of you will know that I have a big problem when I'm eating out socially, especially if the food is plated rather than buffet style. I'm always embarrassed about leaving food on my plate. Well, last night, after the ceremony we had a meal out with YS and his three housemates, and their parents. Everyone had starters, and although mine was yummy it was worryingly big! When the main course arrived, I found that after I'd eaten less than half of it, I was starting to feel full, and so ........ I left the rest, despite the fact that everyone else cleared their plates. Furthermore when the waitress came to clear away, she looked worried and asked if everything was OK. I said it was delicious, but I was full up. Then everyone had dessert, except me. And do you know girls, I felt fine!
Here's another change for you. I don't want to bore you, but at the weekend I bought a skirt in the sales and I had to send the assistant back for a smaller size!
Now just in case you think it's all good news, I did have a cooked breakfast this morning and I've just had pizza for lunch. Not too much of it, but I could do with getting back to eating more fruit and veg.
Finally a funny: when I left most of my main course last night YS (the graduate!) said in an aside "You were going to eat the rest of that but Paul McK**** wouldn't let you!". How true!

Brilliant Christina, I have got a pair of cut off trousers that I bought a few months ago, remember me putting a thread on saying I was in a dilemma, about buying clothes now, when I am losing weight, or should I wait until I had lost. Everyone said to me "get them now", so I did, and I can take them off without undoing the zip and button, I have also got a skirt too, but am I complaining???? Its a great feeling isnt it, well done you.
Well Sella, what can I say, you have put a huge big smile on my face, you have made my day you really have, you must be buzzing with joy, I know I am! I hope you shouted out LOUD "I need a smaller size", so the whole of the shop heard you!, Brilliant brilliant news!

I dont know if this is of any help but I read that if you can imagine the experience of eating a food for the very first time how would you describe this , I tried this with an italian side salad with a slice of pizza and it really made a difference to how much I appreciated how filling and tasty the salad was
