WARNING FOR PREGNANT LADIES
      #149336 - 15/07/2008 08:56

If you or anyone you know is pregnant please take note of this thread.

I have just finished reading "Fridays Child" by Ben Palmer whose wife Jessica died 5 days after giving birth from Childbed Fever. Childbed fever is an infection of the womb in new mothers which can lead to septicaemia. If left untreated infection will cause organ failure and death - even in young, fit mothers. Jessica's illness went undiagnosed and she died aged 34 leaving a distraught husband, a bewildered 3 year old son and a newborn baby daughter. Ben has written this book as a warning that this disease, which was common many years ago, is still around and is totally treatable if diagnosed early. Jessica returned home with her newborn but suffered from high fever, rash and a bad throat infection. The disease, if spotted, could have been cleared up with a course of antibiotics. Jessica was simply told to take a painkiller.

Anyone reading this book cannot be affected by just how pointless this beautiful young woman's death was, and how her devastated family are coping with her death. Ben has set up a website www.jessicastrust.co.uk which gives all information and he has asked via his book that anyone belonging to womens groups/forums etc. to make others aware in a bid to stop someone else suffering or dying unnecessarily. The book has touched me so much that I felt as a woman belonging to a forum read by thousands of other women, I should at least make others aware. If anyone wants to read the book please PM me and I will send it by post, first come first served.
