Hi Hazel,

Think the idea of starting a walking club is an excellent one.
I started walking 'seriously' when I had to take early retirement through ill health four years ago.... I haven't looked back.
I looked for others to walk with, preferably ladies, and used another site to do this but with little success as those who were interested were all far flung!

I then joined a Ramblers group who were great but walking with 30 or so people each week did not do it for me!

Then found we had an Over 50's walking group in our village which I joined and now lead walks several times a year with them - the only difficulty with this lovely group is that because of the age of some of our group, we have to keep the distance to 5 miles or under

I am planning to walk Hadrian's Wall at some point, hopefully this year, and have done two walking holidays to date - one in the Lakes and one in Umbria, Italy.

Would love to join the Ribbon Walk as volunteer at our local Cancer Shop and this would be the next step ( no pun intended!)

I hope ladies who live in my area will come forward as I would love to walk with others, longer distances.
Hope this is more successful than our Supper Club as to date there are only three of us!!!!!
By the way, thought your planning to prepare for the walk was excellent.

Best wishes
Charlotte

Does anyone fancy starting a walking club in north London?

In the actual fresh air, I mean, not walking on a gym treadmill, or round Brent Cross Shopping Centre which is where I tend to walk at present! (I'm from the Yorkshire Pennines so you'd think I'd have found better places to get my exercise....).

IS there any fresh air around N. London?

Hi Cat

I've PM'd you today with my mobile number (no point in giving you my e-mail address, as we're still having trouble with our internet connection - provider's fault apparently - so I'm at our local library at the moment).

It would be great if the 3 of us could get a Walking Group going!!

Hi to all cheshire walkers.

I am also in stockport and interested in the Ribbon walk this year. Unfortunately as I work full time I am only able to meet up at weekends but it would be great to have someone for company.

hi - would love to meet any walkers in the Coventry area - have done 2 ribbon walks - 26 mile thames pathway 2 yrs ago - and the derbyshire 20 mile one last year - oh those hills - especially the last one - only our nine yr old granddaughter - who is a cross country runner and orienteerer therefore super fit pulled me over the last hill- how could I give up when she had travelled all that way to see 'nanny' /meet me at the last 'feeding station' and cross the finish line with her nanny - but forget the hills it was great fun - have not signed up this year yet but would love to meet other walkers as previously have more or less trained on my own which is not always the safest option

Hi, I live in Bristol and would like to start up a walking club. I am in remission from cancer and attend a special gym class for recovering patients but have been told by my consultant that exercise is important, so would like to do more. I am not working at the moment and would like to have someone to walk with during the day when all my friends are at work.I find it difficult to motivate myself when the weather is poor, although I do enjoy walking. If no one lives near can you suggest how I find out about other walking groups in my area.

Thank you.

I was thinking of entering the Ribbon Walk in June and would dearly love some company to train with.

Hi Songbird

I live in Waltham Cross, Herts and would like to go out walking with a companion.

Do you think we live too far away? We could always meet halfway.

At the moment I can only walk weekends and maybe late afternoons and early evenings as I work part time.

Would you be interested?

Hi, I live in Coventry and have registered to do the Peak District Ribbon Walk in June, would love to meet someone to walk with and do a few practise walks beforehand. I did the walk 2 years ago along the Thames with friends but none of them are brave enough to do it this year with me.
Thanks Alison

Hello Rosie,
Nice to hear from you. I am not very fit either but need to get motivated to get fitter and I thought walking would be a good way to do this. I sometimes go walking at Stanick Lakes and Irchester Country Park but it would be nice to have some company. I usually just work three days at the moment and need to get in training as I am doing the Ribbon Walk at Blenheim on June 9th. I also need to loose a bit of weight and thought walking might speed this up.
Hope to hear from you soon Rachel

I'd love to walk with others in the Sutton Coldfield area. I did the first ribbon walk at Blenheim, but found it too embarrassing to go back to the same, generous friends and family for sponsorship a second time. I had a lovely walking holiday in The Black Forest with my daughter earlier this year and really want to keep up the momentum. Is anyone interested? We have a lovely park on our doorstep crying out to be walked in! Jackie McDonald

Walking clubs are great for those who want organised walks at regular, set times. What about those of us unable to walk any distance really that can be considered 'a walk', would like someone to amble along with for half an hour, now and then, when both of you are in the mood? Not everyone is fit enough to do a proper walk, yet amongst us there are those who like to walk, enjoy being outdoors, but just haven't the stamina for any sort of distance. Spare us a thought then, please, as you stride out, eating up the miles.

I would be interested in joining a London walking club. I live on the Isle of Dogs and am happy to travel to anywhere on the underground. I just moved to London a couple of years ago and think there are so many fabulous places around I would love to explore.

Is there a walking club in west Wales? Or is anyone interested in joining up for a walk? Since moving down to this beautiful area a year ago I have discovered lots of lovely walks but it would be nice to have some company other than immediate family. I'm finding that making new friends takes longer - partly because I travel a lot with work so can't commit to regular groups/classes.

Hello. Is anybody interested in walking in the Uttoxeter/Ashbourne area? I am moderately fit, can walk quickly but unable to run! I would like to walk at week ends. Also, if anyone fancies joining a gym, there's a new one in Uttoxeter but I don't want to go alone ...

Please e-mail me and I'll give you my mobile number.

Thanks for reading this post.

Hello Alixx. A long time ago you posted about doing a pink ribbon walk and also meeting walkers in your area. Just this last week I've entered myself to do a breast cancer care sponsored walk in May and I am in the Solihull area, and I'm in touch with Juliah who is in Coventry and we're going to meet up for a walk soon. May be you'd like to join us if you're still wanting walking company.

Hi

There is a walking club just started near Cheltenham, which might be too far away. Their first walk was in Winchcombe, but I think the next one is in Painswick. Details somewhere on this site!! I live in Gloucester, and would be interested in starting a walking group during the week. I am not working during the day either so would prefer to meet up during the week. Is there anyone else in the Gloucestershire/Herefordshire area who would be interested in meeting up for a walk and possibly lunch during the week? I do this with a friend from time to time anyway, and it's very enjoyable.
Anyone else who may be interested, please leave a message.

Hi Hazel. Interested in joining you for your training - I have no immediate plans for a charity walk, although have done small ones in the past, but have always wanted to do something to stretch myself - even thinking on the lines of the trek to South Africa - I like power walking and often go out on my own along the seafront so if your up for company please let us know.... Would be good to have some company and a definite time table.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Songbird,
Would love to join you, I am in West London. How far North are you?
Weekends might be a good idea pending on the distance as I work full time. OH and daughter run but I am not in that league.I sometimes go to the river up to Hammersmith Bridge and across to Barnes down the tow path.
I shall be doing the 5km race for life in June at Richmond Park and have registered my daughter too though she might leave me behind.

Hi Cassie

I'm in Sandbach and would definitely fancy joining in. I work full time and have a 4 year old but I'm sure I could squeeze something in!

Have done both the Moonwalk, Half-Moonwalk and Race for Life so would be happy to offer advice and encouragment if needed.

Hello
Sorry to write 'out of the blue' like this, when the messages you wrote to Chris and Cassie were nearly 2yrs ago!
I am completely new to this - and a complete technophobe into the bargain - but I just read your messages and I live near Stockport. I have alot of good friends who enjoy walking, but we don't do it as often as we used to and with just losing my Mum in November, I'd like to branch out and perhaps meet some new people -
Don't know what you guys have established or how this whole thing works, but loved the article in Jan '09 issue re loads of people meeting and getting together through the forums.

Regards

Jessica Reynolds

Hi there,

I live in Ashington in West Sussex. If anybody is interested in starting up a walking club in this area, can you let me know?

I walk with my two rough collies at the moment and one is a very reluctant walker and the other one is a hyperactive walker.

I am in the middle being used as a restraint device. I enjoy walking, but enjoy laughing more. Also, the dogs, gorgeous though they are have very limited conversation, although they do have very expressive ears!

All the best

Alexandra

Hi Cathy,
Did you find anyone to walk with? I live in Enfield, so not too far away and am sometimes free on Sundays. I have a dog who likes to run off the lead whenever possible but if this is ok with you perhaps get in touch and let's see what we can arrange!
Love,Penny

Hi I'm new to this site and have been looking for buddies to walk/train with for some time now through other sites but with no luck. I have signed up to do the BUPA 10K in May in memory of my mum who died of cancer. I need to get out and walk as well as run but would love some buddies for company and motivation. I live in Banbury but I am willing to travel within reason. I went to Blenheim on my own last week just to walk it would be so much more fun with friends!

Hi,
I'm totally new to this forum but have read Woman&Home on and off for a while and have just read about the walking clubs whilst in the dentist which has inspired me to join the forums. Anyway, is there a walking club in Ashford, Kent & if not - anyone interested in joining me to start one?
With crossed fingers, Caroline.

Hi, i live in South Glos - BS16 area and would love to know if anyone would be interested in starting a walking club for this area - or if there is one already could you please get in contact? I'm not a super fit person, and would ideally like to start off on long walks eventually leading onto running (for charity runs) so, make a frumpy 40 yr old turn into a butterfly for a good cause.

Thanks x
