Morning girls, Its a lovely sunny morning here today, a bit nippy still tho,
Another successful night, I am off until next Wednesday night now, so plenty of time to get myself organised for next Friday, when we hit the M6.
It has been discovered that there was a difference of only 1,500-2,000 steps taken a day, between people who are over weight and those who kept a healthy weight. It may sound a lot, but it really is not that far at all.
Get creative and think of some ways in which you could step up your physical activity today.
Remember "little by little" the steps all add up.
Have a successful day girls, hope the sun is shining for you.
Good luck.

Well, I've been doing some housework and putting lots of wellie into it. I read a bout a study that was done on hotel domestic staff. those who tought that housework was good exercise burned more calories than those who didn't - the researchers thought it was because they put more effort in. My walking is a bit restricted again because my knee has been bad this week, so I'll get on with the mop and hoover instead!

I have worked out ti takes me 7 minutes to walk 1000 steps , ten times around the pool, 750 steps to my local chinese, 2000 to Lidl. so if I walk an extra 15 minutes a day thats over 2000 steps .

Oh Goody, valaber, I've been doing lots of housework this morning because some of my family are coming to housesit (and have a little holiday) while Mr Vee and I go away for a few days. Hope your knee gets better soon.
Mjm, while OH and I are away, just the two of us, we'll try and increase our physical activity. If I don't get onto the forum for a few days you'll know the reason why! Enjoy your trip to perry's.

My pedometer says that for me 10000 steps is 5 miles and on the flat I can manage (on a good day) a little over 3 miles an hour, on hills my OH says it's heading towards 3 hours a mile LOL.

Thanks Christina, my walk is 5 miles, up hill down dale, so 10,000 steps thats not bad is it, and all in 1 hour, how fast does that make me??
I am just about to go and join Cher for a bounce.
Does anyone know what you are meant to eat before you exercise, how long before, and what to eat afterwards, for maximum effect??

Oh you are bouncing mjm that's why you wouldn't answer your phone. You do need to let me know before you bounce.

abcd, it's what the orthopaedic consultant called valgus deformity of the knees, which I think is a polite way of saying that I've been knock-kneed all my life, but no-one noticed and now the joints are knackered...awaiting double arthroscopy and then whatever next steps are needed. I just have to be careful not to let the joints get too inflamed because then I can't walk at all...
Perhaps I could copy mjm and bounce instead... travel about on a big space hopper! (now that would be a sight!)

Ive done my bouncing now Perry, Ive got a river running front and back, I know, TOO MUCH information!!!
I am not sure bouncing would be a good idea Valaber, I feel my knees a bit once Ive done 45 mins, its meant to be less impact than jogging, but I think walking remains the safest for you, or Pilates would be even better.

OK...no bouncing. Back to the drawing board. Actually, curiously, the exercise bike is quite good, because it's not weight bearing and it helps build up the quadriceps (think that's the ones). It was recommended in my "How to look after your knees when it's too late" (not it's real title, but that's the message!) book. Sadly, no Pilates available locally at manageable times - a drawback of rural living.
I did fancy the idea of the space hopper though! (If only for the thought of my d.'s face!)

Are you allowing anybody else to join your slim club. It all sounds great fun and it must be great to have others doing it with you.
Can we join now or is it too late in the day.
