I havent told many people about this but my 28 year old nephew is an award winning music video Director. He has worked for many top names in the R&B music scene and his videos are shown all day long on MTV and the other music channels. He won two major awards for videos he has made and works with many top names in the music business.
Well he called me this morning and told me that his current PA has been promoted to assistant Director and he needs a new one. He asked me if I would be interested. He said he wants someone close to him i.e. family, because he is sick of getting ripped off by hangers on who only want from him what they can get. They don't have his personal interests at heart as I would and he knows I have 25 years PA experience.
This really is my dream job. I have a meeting with him next week to get the lowdown and will start in a few weeks time. I may have to accompany him on some of his film shoots and he has shoots coming up in South Africa, Kenya and the French Rivieria to name but a few - its a drag but someone has to do it! Have just told OH as it will mean he will need a new secretary and he is right behind me as he knows this is my absolute dream job.
Am going to get all luvey now - just wanted to share my news with my dahlings - moi moi!

Well done Vicky! You know what they say, "it's not what you know, but who you know", (although I'm sure you know a lot as well!!)- that's great news.
Question is, now you are a high-flying super-duper career woman, will you be featuring in W&H's lifestyle features thingy? The one that always has high powered women wearing really expensive gear?
Seriously, well done you! Go and sock it to 'em!!

Thanks girls. Am sooo excited I cant tell ya! I doubt I'll be quite a high flyer super-duper career woman - Nephew told me it can be long hours and sometimes thankless (lots of big stars and wannabes up their own *****es!) I dont mind - it will keep me busy till we move to France but he also told me he will fly me back from France when we have a shoot to do, otherwise I can work mostly from home booking crew, lighting, transport, catering etc. when he has a shoot. He said I can do it all via the internet.
Hope I last longer than my last job (1 day!)

I hope you dont mind if I add a little background.
My sister had a violent marriage, her ex thought it clever to give her a good beating, and he ground her down until she believed herself worthless. After her third child was born premature at 28 weeks and in special care in hospital, she took one last beating, and she left the home taking her other two children who were 4 and 6 and went to a womens refuge. The baby pulled through fine (and is now a strapping 22 year old) and my sister stayed at the refuge for 10 months while she got the ex kicked out of the house.
She spent the next 22 years (app) bringing her kids up with little money. She had to work three jobs and slogged day and night to see my nephew through College then Uni - and he was the only lad on his course who didnt have his own car and who had a job. I did help my sister out when I could, and when my nephew graduated I was honoured to be invited to see him receive his degree. I cannot tell you how much that meant, and how emotional the whole day was, we were in tears for most of it because it closed a chapter for my sister who had been doubted by so many people. She felt she had succeeded where she was destined to fail.
He is now successful and he knows what she went through to get him where he is and he is so very thankful to her. Her other two kids are also super and grew up to be respectful adults with good jobs. She lived in a rough area where violence and drugs are all around, and things could have been so very different for them all. You see so much badness in the world and a lot of it is down to circumstances, and I know I feared for her and her kids many times over those years. Even in the hardest of times, she never gave up.
My nephews and niece are a credit to my sis, to have gone through what she did, and have kids who respect their mum, are loyal and loving to her and are making a success of their lives I think, is a shining example of triumph over adversity.
I hope you dont mind me sharing that with you. I have been thinking about it a lot lately and about how proud I am of her. In fact I am going to send a copy of this post to her in a card tomorrow because I dont think she knows just how much I love and admire her.

Congratulations Vicky.
I hope this won't distract you from the very important event you're organising in October!!!
Seriously though, it sounds fantastic and your nephew is a credit to your sister for his hard work.
I trust you will be partaking in some of the falling down water this evening?!!!

Vicky thank you so much for sharing with us. I can feel your pride not in your sister as well as in her children shining through your words.
It means so much more to have come through what she was faced with and conquered.
I know, having had a similar experience myself. What a wonderful family you have.

How wonderful for you Vicky - congratulations! And, how lovely that your OH is behind you in this.
Thank you for sharing your sister's story with us - you sound, rightly, so proud of her and I am sure she will be so very thrilled to read what you have said about her in your post. Only too often we don't let those closest to us know how we feel and then, for many reasons, wish that we had.
