Life is too short
      #115360 - 15/05/2008 13:18

I am sitting here at lunch time and I feel really sad/gutted.

I work in a hospital (support staff). A colleauge of mine went down to A&E on Monday with pains in her chest. She had another colleague with her, and they had her on monitors etc. The hospital sent her home, and said she was having panic attacks!

She rang in both Tue & Wed to say whe was still feeling bad. Her son rang this morning to say she died during the night of a massive heart attack. She was only 47!

Some colleagues have gone home, the whole place is in shock and the atmosphere is awful.

So gurls, enjoy what you have and live every day as if it was your last.

In the last year we've lost my FIL and my BIL (mid 40's) has been diagnosed with something that is likely to be terminal and now my OH has to have a CT scan as his migraines have been getting more frequent and he seems to have at least a mild a headache more days than he doesn't. We've thought long and hard and have decided that we won't turn down any new opportunities or experiences (providing of course it's legal) - it's worth trying anything at least once (and maybe twice if we like it!). Life is most certainly too short.

It certainly is times like these, when I hear of such dreadful things happening to other people, that I count my blessings....my heartfelt sympathy goes out to those ladies and families affected by tragedy this week....sad days indeed.

This is so shocking to hear, LibrarianChick, and a terrible set of circumstances, no matter what age the person involved. And as Duffy also appreciates, it really kicks home when it's someone so close to you. My sister died in the same way at the age of 44 six years ago, leaving a 10 yr old and 15 yr old. In some ways, I'm still in shock over the loss, so can totally appreciate just what you're describing.

Dear gurls, thank you all sooooo much for your kinds words. I was okay whilst I was working, at lunch it just got to me.

Then tonight (worked late), a domestic who cleans our offices said "did you hear about the wee nurse in 207", no I hadn't, seemingly she was doing obs in the ward and just collapsed on the floor and died!!!, she was only 23 years old, just come back from a holiday in Cyprus.

OH is making dinner, I am just sitting here feeling gutted with a glass of red wine. What a crock of S**t life is this week.

But hey, I am sooooo glad I bought my little mazda mx5 on May 3rd, before I get much older!! Who knows what is around the corner?

I drove home tonight (rang my daughter first to tell her I loved her and the boys and her hubby) with the roof down and just was glad that I was alive. And I am having the day off tomorrow and going to get my hair done, then we have the Edinburgh Supper Club tomorrow night.

I am not going to ever complain about bits of my body I don't like. If you ever hear me complain, shoot me down in flames please, as a reminder that I am alive!

I am going to have a ball in York with all you mad women / gurls on here.

Thanks again gurls.

Sorry Librarian_chick I've only just seen your post about your colleague and then the young nurse - how terrible for their families and their friends.

When you read of things like this happening it really brings home what a slender hold we all have on life. My dad often used to say 'that you never know the minute' and it's absolute true.
