I'm a genius! Well, I have a bright idea now and again!
Today I've been doing some decorating and needed to use a paint tray .... I lined it with clingfilm and then poured the paint in ... once the job's finished, fold the clingfilm together and no dirty tray to wash. Saving time and loada water.

Thanks for that idea LadyWillow. I usually am the one who ends up doing the decorating around here so I will keep this in mind and no problems there. Our front room is due for a lick of paint again and my only concern and question is what colour do I choose  Normally I put at least five swatches of colour about on the walls till the OH picks one her can live with!

Cling film is also useful for covering your brush when you stop for lunch or a cuppa.
It does not, however work if you leave a brush full of Hammerite for 4 days, as I discovered last night!

What a brilliantly simple idea. Will use it for sure. I do cling wrap my brushes and they will last overnight if needs be.

I cling film brushes while still painting but throw out any used for gloss paint as I cannot bear cleaning them.

I'm embarassed to admit this, but ... I've had a roller of paint wrapped in clingfilm for over three months! (the rain put off the outside job)
It's still soft and ready to go.
I've been clingfilming brushes for years ... I don't know why I didn't think of using it to line the trays before now. Ah well, better now than never.
I'm guilty of wrapping paintbrushes "for use later" ... only to come across them weeks later as hard as wood. But, if it's emulsion, just soak them in hot soapy water and they come good.

Also if you have used a roller, paint tray and brush and still need to do another coat, then put the brush and roller in the paint tray and put the whole lot in a dustbin bag, tie it up and it's ready to go the next day.
When decorating my house when I moved in, I constantly had a white emulsion tray which I kept on the go for 6 months this way. Sometimes it would be unused for a couple of weeks or more, but was still ready to use when needed.
