Do You Sunbathe Or Do You Stay In The Shade?
      #113740 - 12/05/2008 11:29

I for one feel great for getting a bit of sun on me.
I am enjoying this good weather we have been having here in the UK. I do sit out in the sun when I have the odd five minutes. I always wear at least a Factor 8 suncream and lately have been using Factor 15+
I have a dark olive complexion but still can go a bit pink if I over do it
Do you sunbathe or do you cover up and stay in the shaded?

Hi there Spanishlady.
You under your olive tree sounds just ideal
I have an olive tree but it would be very hard to sit under it as it is only a 1 ft high
I do how ever have a fig tree which is now five years old and is three times larger than seen here. It has begun to open out its leafs and when fully out they give a good amount of shade on our area patio. Also gives me loads of lovely juicy figs later on in the summer

Hi Debbie,

I'm not a big fan of sunbathing - prefer to sit in the shade, preferably under an umbrella with a good book and a glass of wine!

Mind you, there's not much danger of getting a chance to sit in the sun today - Edinburgh is damp and drizzly and appears to be in the middle of a big cloud!

Karen

I go for long walks and come back with not only shoulder strap marks but an extra diagonal mark across my chest where my bag strap was

Or at least that's what I did yesterday (despite the factor 15!)

I lost myself just then thinking about sitting under an olive tree - it sounds idyllic!

As for the sun - I wish I could sit in it but as a ginger I don't stand a chance. I was only outdoors for ten minutes yesterday and I have caught the sun

I will have to remain pale and interesting

Hi Debbie - I don't like sitting in the sun and would much rather be in the shade (preferably on a comfortable lounger, with a good book and a glass of something nice!). I don't mind going for a walk on a sunny day, as long as it isn't too hot, but don't like just sitting or laying in the sun.

I'm very pale skinned - I catch the sun and burn very quickly despite the high factor sun lotion.

I rarely sit in the sunshine, much preferring cool shady spaces.

Definitely a sunbather, but slathered in cream and with access to the shade for when it's just too hot.

Oh I love the sun.

Only came in here for a minute to cool off!!!

It is glorious and I am sitting on the patio
drinking coffee and chilling out.
Have lots of sun protection on though.

I hope the weather continues

Phew What a hot one again. I have spent most of the day outside with my factor 15 on but I wasn't sunbathing.
I have been weeding. My face is a little sun kissed but otherwise I think I covered myself well with the suncream this time
I have a friend who, like many of you who have replied here so far, is pale skinned. She isn't a beach, sunbathing type of person. She just goes pink then red if she is in the sun to much. I think she wears a factor 30 sun block and even then she still goes pink!
Hi there SusiQ and Nightingale my fellow sun bathers. I've got my mum popping over tomorrow for lunch so then I imagine we will be sitting in the sun for a bit while chatting 9 to a dozen

I quite like sitting out in the sun for short bursts, or walking in the sun, but always wear sun lotion - had factor 30 on chest and factor 10 on my arms and face today. Mowed the lawn this morning, and wore a hat. Walked the dog at lunchtime, and wore a hat, but tried to stay under trees more than open fields.

I used to love sunbathing when I was in my teens and twenties, but was always careful and used sunscreen. Glad I did. My dad used to chance it and now experiences skin cancer from time to time, as does my gran.

I used to be a sun worshipper - even applying coconut oil and other oils to get more brown! I just hope I got away with it as I haven't had any problems so far!

Anyway I'm much more sensible now. I like to feel the sun on me, but find I get overheated much more quickly these days. By choice it would be the Olive Tree for me and a nice cool drink, sunglasses and a good book (but I'm much too busy working and have just popped in for a break!).

However I do love to be brown - I look and feel so much better. My plan this year is to try and do it more gradually with about a factor 8/15 depending on sun strength.

Always had a tough skin and tanned easily, but it seems none of us can get away with what we used to. Besides I want to try and keep the wrinkles at bay. I have noticed that a lot of ladies who have done a lot of sunbathing seem to have very wrinkly skin, and not just on their faces! I think I'll use a touch a fake tan to acelerate the tanning process and be careful.

Hi All

I prefer the shade but have recently been on hols and used factor 25 on my face. But now have a huge, I mean huge, spot on my chin which I'm sure is from the cream. One son said I was growing another head, the other recoiled in horror and my father said what's that mole on your face.

Has anyone else reacted like this? I'm sure it's from the heavy cream, it's same make as my cleaners etc!!!!!

I thought today, here in the South East, where it was bright and sunny all day, how lighthearted I felt. With bright blue sky, and sparkling sun it really lifted my spirits.....but I like to sit in the shade.

Defo the shade for me wearing sun glasses and SPF of 50. The sun will age your skin like nothing else ladies. A wrinkled prune I do not want to resemble.

Shade for me - otherwise it's not so much a prune I resemble, as a strawberry!!!

Definitely plenty of sun cream, factor 25+ for me. I tend to use fake tan, not too much that I go orange but just enough to have a 'healthy glow' (as the adverts say).
I'm fair skinned alike some of the others and know I'll burn, and that is sooo not a good look!

Well its been sunny and cool here today, nipped into town with just a shirt on and I was back to being freezing.........
I do love the sun I'm afraid, don't lie out all day like I used to but prefer early morning and late afternoon with a good book. and when its hot the bar preferably..........
