Our ensuite shower is out of order and I am I use the word plagued as the hard water we have around here in Kent has yet again killed our power shower. About every four years or so the shower unit and pipes fur up and the shower fails to heat the water. OH bought yet another new power shower unit the other month and has only now today got around to installing it.
We found as it is a newer but the same make this one is smaller than the old and as a result we have a bare patch and need to re tile all round it. Not able to take it back now as its over the month and not fautly!! !!!
Are you suffering like me with living in a hard water area or do you have a water softener ? If so would you recommend investing in one? At £100 quid a pop for a new shower every four or so years I think it might be time to invest don't you!

Had that problem at the last house I lived in. Every two years or so I got a chap to flush out the whole system with some chemical or other. Then had a cartridge device fitted to the incoming cold water pipe that had a softener in. You just replace it every year. I think it cost about £20 for the cartridge but it worked.

Hi there Salgash I hadn't thought about the cartridge idea so thanks for that suggestion. I'll let you know what we end up doing

Treetops Your PM box is full so posting my message here. Thanks for that suggestion and information. Our home is a mansion No seriously I think two of these things you suggested might just do. Will pass this information on to my OH and see what he decides. Have a good day what ever you are up to and enjoy the mild warm weather if you can in Scotland. Me I'll be on and off the forums most of the day no doubt and in between weeding the grounds of our mansion here Hope to stay here next time we are in Scotland I wish!

Fortunately we are in a soft water area, so never get problems with showers, kettles etc

Thanks Salgash,That was a very useful bit of information. We are in the middle of transferring our bathroom from one place to another . As we are both in the same area, our water is equally as hard,so will make a note of the cartridge idea, and show it to OH later.
Best Wishes annemari
