Has anyone read this? It really is a remarkable book by a young Australian author called Markus Zusak. Its about life in a small town in Nazi Germany. Though it in no way trivialises the terrible goings on, the story is quirky and refreshingly different with an unusual narrator! Don't let the first few pages put you off!

I cant help feeling this book has been discussed here very recently but I cant for the life of me find any thread relating to it, so, yes I have read it and yes I also enjoyed it too.It was quite an unusual story with a very unusual narrator.

I just finished reading this book this afternoon and it has been a long time since I shed a tear over a story but I did with this one !! Such a different way of telling a story it really held the reader's interest . Am passing it on to a friend to take on holiday next week - wonder how she will take to it ?

I thought this book was fantastic. I enjoyed Death as the narrator. Both my daughters have now read it (aged 13 & 16) and I have passed it on to a work colleague. I think I read somewhere that this book was originally written for teenagers but has become one of those 'cross-over' books that can be enjoyed by adults as well.
I find that there are very few books that can be wholeheartedly recommended to others, of those that spring to mind The Book Thief & The Kite Runner are at the top of the list. Don't miss this one!

Just finished The Book Thief.I thought it was brill! I couldn't get in to it for a while but it was well worth the effort. It will be put on my shelf of classic reads along with Kite Runner,Lovely Bones,We Need To Talk About Kevin and others.
