Salem Falls by Jodi Picoult
      #100206 - 19/04/2008 08:52

My reading habits have changed as I've got older. Since wearing glasses I read for shorter stretches. I fall asleep easily so I definitely don't read in bed.

All that changed yesterday. I was gripped by this book. I went to bed at 11.30pm but couldn't put the book down. I surprised myself by trying to read in bed, in fact I continued until I finished it at 4am!

My favourite authors are generally Maeve Binchy. Joanna Trollope, Alexander McCall Smith and since last year Jodi Picoult.

Hi Joanna - I could not get into this book although I have read all her others but I am going to pick it up again after reading your post. Have you read Joanna Trollope Firday Nights? Again I just cant really get into it but I wondered if you think its worth sticking with

Hello you ladies, just to say I have also read Salem Falls too and LOVED it.I have read all of her books (except she has a brand new hard back out just now)and loved them all.I think my favourite was The Pact, but probably only because it was the first of hers that I ever read. After that one I just read them all.I also quite like Joanna Trollope but have not yet read Friday Nights. At the moment I am reading The Spa Decameron by Fay Weldon.I havent read anything by her for a long time and this one is quite clever.

I hadn't realised that there was a new one out, I've just looked on Amazon to see what it is. My first book was My Sister's Keeper. I have read most of the books now. I don't think I have ever read any Fay Weldon so that is something to try next time. I tend to only read during holiday time, apart from magazines, so it will be a while before I get my nose in a good book again.

I am a big fan of Jodie Picoult - love the way she takes a controversial subject and really delves into it. She certainly makes for good discussions at book group! I loved My Sister's keeper, Plain Trith and Salem Falls the best but really enjoy everything she does.
I haven't read anything by Fay Weldon for a while - enjoy Anita Shreve and Margaret Forster too.

I enjoyed the first couple I read but this was the third and I felt they all fit the same formula so haven't read any more.

I loved this book, had me gripped, but do have to agree with Feathers as I have now read a few and am giving them a miss for a while as they do seem to be the same formula. Will probably try another but not at present.
