From: yogaanam A group of Han chinese students are relocated to the wilds of inner Mongolia at the time of the Cultural Revolution. Their interaction with the hardy, resourceful descendants of Ghengis Khan teaches them much of the interplay necessary for survival between human, landscape and animal. The young students adopt the old ways embracing the spirituality and practicality of nomadic life whilst mourning China's expansion into this wild and hauntingly hard wilderness. A truly magnificent novel well worth the 2007 Man Asian Literary Prize. I loved every minute of it.
