Feedback............ but ONLY if this is positive

Methinks yaw'll love to have compliments on how good is your magazine, but if you take the trouble to read through the comments in the forum carefully, you will see that many of us feel the contents are boring, predictable, utterly useless regarding prices and as for the letters page! Some junior in a back office making up these atrocious 'how I changed my life' stories? No sorry, I threw down the gauntlett for Sue James to respond to criticism, but guess what? Stoney silence. We who do not live in UK DO NOT like being victimised by not being able to participate in competitions. Let's see some good old criticism printed on the letters page for a change. Been bombarded by renewal notices, all of which have gone straight into the bin. Even though the pound is at a catastrophic exchange rate against the euro, still wont renew to W+H.

Could you include features on what women are doing since they retired from work?

Re: Feedback............ but ONLY if this is positive

Just so that I would know what I was talking about I actually bought this month's W&H yeaterday....and I really enjoyed reading it!

Good articles, very informative features...Yes, a good all round read.

I would imagine if it's just not your cup of tea then maybe you are buying the wrong magazine.

Re: Feedback............ but ONLY if this is positive

Over the past few years since I started receiving the W&H magazine again 9massively discounted via the vouchers system from my Tesco points card) I have found issues to be mixed and not all good. Many articles and clothes listed are way off the mark and not in my league, size wise or affordable for my pocket.

Like Cuppy says and I guess as with anything there is not a perfect magazine that will please all of us all of the time but I feel IPC Media Ltd's W&H and Essentials magazines are the nearest and on the whole suit for me a woman in her 40s + and with working OH and two kids at uni.
I am certainly past 'Girl' magazine that's for sure and the 'Jackie' stage. Yes I know it shows up my age

Re: Feedback............ but ONLY if this is positive

I was making a constructive suggestion, life doesn`t end when people retire from work! I have been a subscriber for a few years now, so I must like something about it. What a shame my first contact with this forum, should be so judgmental and negative. Lets have something creative!

Re: Feedback............ but ONLY if this is positive

Your answer to my suggestion about what retired women were doing with their lives. As I am only learning to use the internet, I inadvertantly thought my feedback was to the magazine, so I was taken aback to get a reply from you! Not to worry, I`ll learn! Have a nice day.

No juanita!!!! I wasn't answering you personally and I am so sorry you thought I had aimed my comments to you. I just happened to post after you but my comment was just a general one that I had quite enjoyed reading the mag this month.

I really really hope you are not put off the forum by me.

Come onto 'Your lives' and introduce yourself...you'll get a warm and friendly welcome from everyone!

Hi Juanita
I hope you will join in and enjoy these fun, often friendly, varried and helpful forums of Woman & Home's.

I just wanted to reply and refer to your remarks about the age one reads things if you are retired or not.
I pass all my magazines to my mum who will be 70 this year and she in turn passes these magazines to an OAP's care home near to her where the average age of the reader is in the 90s

Ooops, head down, but..I quite like w&h. Okay, I can't afford all the clothes, but they styles are okay, and I'll find alternatives in my price range.

Same applies to house stuff.

It's the holier than thou, I've set up my own business, I'm such a success, you're so mediocre, articles I hate. Meant to be inspiring but just patronising

Re: Feedback............ but ONLY if this is positive

I enjoy the magazine but get a little tired of all the life coaching stuff.
Everyone generally seems to have well paid exciting jobs as well.
I am not one of those people.I clean someones house 2 mornings a week and the rest of the time is my own to do my own thing. It may be boring to some but i bet a lot of people are doing the same thing and simply dont feel the need to be constantly striving for the next thing.
Just be happy with your lot.Love your life and get on with it.We cant all be brain surgeons.

Re: Feedback............ but ONLY if this is positive

Hi Evianers, interested to read that you have had no response from the Editor, I've had none either even to emails sent directly to her. Beginning to wonder if she even exists. It certainly appears that the W&H team are not in the least bit interested in our feedback - the magazine is obviously profitable enough for them not to care if they lose a few readers. I have unfortunately taken out a new subscription recently but certainly won't be renewing again. As regards competitions though, I wouldn't worry about not being able to take part in these because as has been mentioned on this forum before, no-one ever seems to win. I've looked in vain for a list of prize winners, which I thought had to be made available by law? I read in the paper recently that these competitions are usually a scam, with lots of publications involved and a tiny number of prizes, it implies that we have more chance of winning the lottery. I've stopped doing the competitions now, better things to do with my time.

Re: Feedback............ but ONLY if this is positive

Hi there dvbverycherry: re using Tesco clubcard tokens to buy a W&H subscription, I've looked into this but for the £11 worth of tokens that it costs you can get a lot of deals where you get 4x the amount. Eg if you apply for Cafe Rouge or several other restaurant vouchers you would get £40 worth for £10 of Tesco tokens. So working on that principle you are in effect paying £44 for your 1 year subscription to W&H, which makes it rather expensive I think!

Re: Feedback............ but ONLY if this is positive

Helen, I so agree with you. For various reasons I gave up my job a few years ago and now do ad hoc part-time work for a research agency. Even though I'm just 51 I made the conscious decision not to go back to work full-time because there are lots of things I enjoy doing which I wouldn't be able to fit around a 'proper' job. I realise I'm lucky in that my husband has a well-paid job and earns enough for us to enjoy a reasonable standard of living but I can really do without the comments I get from so-called friends who consider my life boring and meaningless, as it's far from being that. I'm never bored and I don't think I'm boring either! Articles about women who run several businesses around bringing up half a dozen children can get very irritating. If that's what they want to do, that's fine, but as you say, some of us are happy with our lot and can do without the life coaching.

Re: Feedback............ but ONLY if this is positive

Hi Anneh
When I took out my subscription it was only £9 worth of tokens I am sure. This was for 13 months W&H magazine which will end soon and I also won't be renewing it.
Since then the cost has, it appears, increased.

Yes I agree if you often go to Cafe Rouge or several other restaurants and can get the vouchers for them it is by far better value for money when trading in ones Tesco clubcard voucher.

Helen I to am happy and feel blessed with my lot in life.
I clean for two old people and am happy to help them and friends who live near me rather than go back to working in retail which I did for a number of years after the kids went to secondary school.

I enjoy being a mum and housewife. My life is far from sad or boring. I don't feel that having a high flying job or the need and ability to buy expensive clothes will make me a better person or give me a better quality of life.

I aim to make the most of each and every day so please W&H, if you do read what we are chatting about here, feature more down to earth ladies and the every day positive life of the hard working unsung housewife, mum or granny.

Why not do a feaure on budget clothes and true value breaks?
Money isn't going to be so easily avaliable for many of us seeing as we are at the start of the credit crunch year.
As Wispa puts it 'stop patronising us' and give us the positive support, advice and features we really want to read about.

Re: Feedback............ but ONLY if this is positive

Ladies
Your replies here are a darned sight more interesting than the blah, blah, blah rubbish printed on the Letters Page. Definitely some junior chewing the end of a pencil thinking up new ways to describe "how I changed my life". Do we want to change? Aren't most of us happy with what we have already? Yes, no-one takes any notice = Let Us Know What You Think...
but if it does comform to very restricted prose, they simply are not interested.
Once again, Sue James, GIVE US AN ANSWER!!!!

Re: Feedback............ but ONLY if this is positive

I have just signed onto the forum and having bought W&H for a couple of years I too would like to let you know what niggles me - can't believe this is the first time I have left a message and it's a moan!! I know that Breast Cancer affects many many people and their families but so does heart disease. I can understand that you sponsor this terrible illness but what about some of the other illnesses that people are suffering. I would also like to see some stories about women who lead ordinary lives and how they cope with sometimes the lonliness, the menopause, mid life weight gain and lack of confidence (oops that gives away my age) it really doesn't help me to keep reading about women who have high powered jobs. I will wait to hear from the editor!!!!!!!!!

Dream on Rosetta! Original poster here and I have now been waiting for some response for weeks. One receives more support from the forum than the editorial staff.
And to Mollybrownsnow, there is another lady in Italy whose pseudonym is Cinderella - try sending her a private message and who knows, you might be able to give each other moral support.

Rosetta I feel the same. In fact I resubscribed in December but after seeing the January issue and how it was no different to last year I cancelled. I sent the editor an email saying why I cancelled and just got the standard "sorry you have deciced to cancel" and nothing else. So don't hold your breath...........

Re: Feedback

Hi Thimble, I was just wondering how you went about cancelling your subscription. Did you cancel before they took payment, or did you get a refund? I paid by cheque and have had my first magazine now so I guess I'm committed, but I'm really not impressed either with the magazine or the 'sod you all' attitude of the editorial staff.

Re: Feedback

Well I cancelled before my first issue was sent. But I don't know why you can't cancel now and ask for a refund. Email the editor and say why you want to cancel. Perhaps if they get enough cancellations with the same reason they just might take notice. Worth a try. They might just give you 9 months refund or something but at least that would be something. I know I would try. Good luck.

Molly/Julie,
There is another lady who contributes from Italy called Limoncello. Check out her name on the "your lives" thread as I may not have spelt it correctly.
