Ugly Footwear Summer 09

I have to admit to not being very fashion conscious but this year when I went to look for some nice summer sandals/footwear I couldn't see anything I liked.

The shops are awash with shoes that were made for Minnie-Mouse, you know those ghastly round-toed 1940's styles. Or enormous high platforms in bizarre shiny plastic colours. The alternative is pumps or frumpy flat Pirelli sandals.

Anyone else had more luck?

I know exactly what you mean. I would like to buy some pretty summer shoes with a little heel which would look good with dresses and skirts.

I'm not keen on clumpy wedges or really high heels or complete flatties. I need shoes I can walk in! I can't wear pumps either as they don't suit my feet and jellies are a no no for everyday work.

Hi.. have just been searching for the very same thing.

I don't have pretty feet unfortunately so have to avoid strappy sandals. I don't have to dress too formally for work and I find espadrilles that tie at the ankle, with a 2-inch heel, are a good solution for me. Ropey Soles is a good place to look on-line.

I have just bought some gold 'fit flops'. I bought them after reading about them on here and of course being a salesmans dream I was tempted. Have to say they are so comfy I have ordered a 2nd pair already. I have wide size 8's so not dainty by any stretch but so far everyone I have seen whilst wearing them have said how pretty they are. They are the most expensive pair of flip flops I have ever bought but after a week of wearing them constantly I don't care-I love them and would thoroughly recommend them.

Hey girls count me in................ when you find some nice onces let me know. All I want is a nice pair of feminine navy sandals with a little heel. Can I find them - No there are none to be had.

I would love to try these new fitflops BS as they sound comfy and great. BUT I have tried in the past to wear sandals with toeposts and I just canot get on with them. They hurt my toes so much................

Try Pavers if you are lucky enough to have a branch where you live. I could spend hours in there just browsing the aisles. I also think that Clarkes have some nice shoes around at the moment.
I'll be watching the Forum seeing what luck you ladies have.

I love toe post sandals.In most other sandals my feet seem to move forward and they hurt between the ball of my foot and my toes. But toe posts never hurt.

I have seen lovely silver toe post ones in M&S.Maybe next week!

I've just bought a lovely pair of yellow sandals for work, mid heel and very comfortable, from Moshulu. They have lovely pretty sandals and shoes - not cheap, but very well-made, and I can recommend them - and they do mail order - www.moshulu.co.uk.

After weeks of desperation and fruitless searching, I found something suitable at . . . B.H.S. They're only summer sandal-shoes, don't have to last for ever, but have enough of a front to them to cover the problem bits, sling backs and a small, very small, wedge heel.

I'm glad it's not just me! I love flip flops and have several pairs, but want some summer sandals or shoes with a bit of a heel that I can walk in. I went out today to look for some and just couldn't find anything.........loads of very flat sandals or very high sandals, or bizarrely, very high clumpy shoes. Started to feel very middle aged.....

Did buy some nice gold high heeled sandals in New Look for about Ł20 though. Not really what I was looking for and not sure when I will wear them but they did make me feel better!

I felt very middle aged the other day, when a friend commented that she liked my shoes and I replied..'Thanks, they are from Clarks and are sooo comfy'!!!

I think Clarks have come a long way since the 'school shoes' days. There are some really pretty, strappy, comfortable ones. Perhaps you're right though, Blossom - my daughter says, the day she buys a pair of shoes for comfort, is the day she gives up!

By the way, after a day at Ascot yesterday in very high heels, I wish I'd worn my 'granny' shoes!

I was reading recently that as you get older, the only part of your body which loses fat is the soles of your feet. Could this be why we are all finding shoes more uncomfortable?

I thought, typical, losing fat from the one part of your body where is doesn't show! God is definitely a man!

I totally agree!! I also have the gold fit flops and they are so comfortable - I have also heard great stories about their effectiveness at toning legs & bottoms & tightening cellulite - any shoe that can do that gets my vote! I do a little bit of running too and putting the fit flops on afterwards has been great on my calves which usually ache after running - not with the fit flops!

Ditto Truth - but I wear mine after golf.

I have arthritic feet -if I walk round town, or on hard pavements (especially cobbled type) it feels as if I'm walking on pebbles. Absolute agony. Holidays abroad are the same - hot cobbley pavements can spoil a holiday.

But fit-flops are wonderful - the seem to cushion the foot.

They look great with jeans, linen trousers or summer skirts, and I can wander round town for hours without being in agony.

Even my daughter approves

have you tried Moshulu?? I have a couple of pairs of theirs and they are so so comfortable...

I also have a couple of pairs of Sketchers for smart/casual wear and thye are also very comfortable...

although I can't do the toe post ones, just cannot get to grips with them at all...

I too bought the gold fit flops!! They are so comfortable as you all are saying, but a word of warning! Break them in before going for a long walk....I learnt this the hard way.

Have just bought Asics runningshoes/trainers.Guy in Sports shop says they are the best! I want to do a lot more walking but have to have the right footwear!

Shock of the week! My piano-tuner turned up earlier this week, as expected, to - tune my piano. Wearing exactly the same model sandals as I found (see earlier post).

Only thing is - last time he came, he was a he; and now he's a she. A bit unnerving . . . .

I know what you mean. I found some really nice wedge sandals on Next webpage. Great height and so comfortble. They have really good reviews which made me decide to order. Slip on, in black or white - open toed with two straps. About Ł30. I've worn them non stop since buying..

They sound like the ones I got in black and agree they are comfy and look fashionable, worn them a few times.
