I have plucked up the courage to go and have my legs and underarms waxed, the question is...do I shave before I go, do I leave stubble, or should the hair be longer? Which ever is the less painless would be appreciated! Also once you have been waxed, is there no going back to the razor? Any advice you have to offer would be great.

The hair should be a few millimetres long at least, otherwise the wax can't get a grip, so to speak. Its a couple of week's growth. If you have a low pain threshhold, take a nurofen an hour or so before your appointment. Otherwise, you'll be fine. Suggest you tell the therapist you haven't had it done before and she will talk you through it. Its best to pull the skin taut for the underarms (less painful), but your therapist should tell you what to do. |

Thank you for that Shoelover, I should be fine now and the therapist knows it's my first time, but hopefully not my last! |

Yes, of course you can go back to the razor. I had my unerarms done once with wax and never again. My legs and bikini line are no problem. |

I have had lots of waxing...sounds like I,m really hairy.I trained as a beauty therapist so we had to practice oneach other.Must agree with Biker Babe underarms never again. Just make sure the therapist gives you aftercare advice and if you are having the bikini line done wear soft old nickers as I find the elastic can cause soreness. |

No advice I can offer I'm afraid. However I do have to tell you that there is a new fad waxing/beauty type that is now being practiced in some salons. It's called bikini bling - yes honestly I kid you not. Total waxing of the bikini area followed by putting on little diamonds in said area (well not real diamonds of course). I thought it was a joke but our local beauty college is teaching it in their current waxing technique course. Why on earth would anyone want that done? Things never cease to amaze me these days, am I getting old? |

Oooh Bizibee I don't fancy that idea! I'm not having my bikini line done as I'm not that brave. A little worried about the underarms now, so might take some Nurofen. The thing is I'm only doing this because I'm going on holiday otherwise I would of stayed with the razor. You never know it might not hurt...that much!

A large gin beforehand helps as well! It only hurts the first time, then it gets easier. I have my bikini and underarms done, and it's okay. But I also have my toes done, and that is agony! ..wispa |

Toes ! You have got to be kidding. My friend who is a podiatrist told me to keep the hair on my big toes. If it stops growing it is a sign of diabetes due to poor circulation getting down to the feet. Which means bad circulation equals no hair growth. Mind you I'm not exactly a Hobbit so a few hairs is neither here nor there. |

Are you serious regarding hair on big toe? I used to have them but not for some time and didn't think anything about it until reading your comment. |

I guess we should be thankful that we don't have to go through the...back, crack and sac wax! Lol! I'm glad to hear it gets better Wispa, and thanks Tag49 I did wonder but didn't want to ask. I'll be glad when this waxing is done as feeling a little hairy at the mo, which is very unlike me by the way.

Hi Bizibee thank you for your comments re big toe and hairs, after reading your comment and thinking about it I went to Boots the next day and bought some Diastix to check glucose levels, thankfully the test strip showed clear. I appreciate your information and the following comments ![]() garden 62 |

I am very fair and have had my legs waxed but prefer sugaring which is less excruciating. Had the pits done once, but never again, although I loved being hairless for many weeks afterwards. Thought the nurofen advice sounded really good and makes sense. Are you also very sensitive just before a period? I recall a beautician advising me to have hair removal in the early days after a period rather than just before. On the delicate subject of body hair, and being a woman of a certain age, I would love to know how everyone my age copes with facial hair? I hate growing a beard - it really bothers me. I am too fair for laser treatment. Have tried waxing but you need a bit of a regrowth before the next session and I hate that time and currently have some pads which are supposed to remove hair - though they seem to sandpaper it off. Isn't there a pill to get rid of facial hair? |

Just thought I would let you know how I got on with the waxing...had the underarms done, and no problem as that was my biggest concern, so will go again. As for legs....OUCH! Although it did get better, she also did my toes so that was good. Waxing is the way forward for me now. Thanks for your comments
