What to wear for February Wedding?

Have been invited to my friends, daughters wedding which is only five weeks away. I haven't been to a wedding for years and have no idea what people wear these days. It's a church wedding followed by reception in hotel.
Any ideas?

Ohh, difficult with all the sales on, the church may be cold so i would want a jacket or coat,a glamourous scarf over probably trousers and a dressy top, its been recommended before on here to try a personal shopper,Debenhams have this service and i think its free, worth a try.

Thanks Holly. Might just try that as I'm generally a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl.

I went to a wedding between Christmas and New Year and wore a golden-colour dress with black opaque tights and a cropped black jacket. I very comfortable yet appropriate. Everyone had made an effort, lots of dresses and heels - it's lovely to see.

Sadly hats seem to be a fading tradition, at least at the weddings that i go to.

Optimistic, I was thinking about hats whilst reading this thread, not as fashionable as they were for weddings. Women seem to wear those fascinators now.

Rainbow, here's a link to what they look like

Thanks for that Gyp.
They are lovely but not sure if I'd wear one. I suppose it depends on what else I'd be wearing.

Depends on whether it is an "evening do" as in black tie or just lounge suits. Evening gives you more scope as you can wear an evening dress more than once. Otherwise I think go for sumptuous fabrics like velvet/embroidery etc. At least its not time to get legs and flesh out on display.

Think cold weather. What about a nice winter long skirt so your legs are warm with a smart jacket and pashmina or scarf. Churches seem to be freezing at the best of times and that way you can hide a multitude of warm things underneath!

Re: What to wear for February Wedding?

I went to a family wedding in December and wore a black satin cocktail dress from Coast, with a knee length dark green velvet coat from Hobbs over the top. Warm enough for the day time, but also felt 'party like' for the evening.

Many of the women, particularly the younger ones were in cocktail dresses, many of them strapless, with a pashmina or a shrug for the day. I went to three weddings last year, and wearing black for weddings seems to be increasingly popular, although personally I think it needs some colour with it.

I also have a wedding to go to in February so am looking for some ideas too!

Hi Everyone,

Susie Blue, I was just going to suggest the same thing, you have to be warm in the cold churches.

Blossom, love the description of your outfit, sounds really glam.

Re: What to wear for February Wedding?

I'm off to a wedding also in February but will be wearing a flimsy floaty dress with strappy sandals and bare legs... mad you ask? No, the wedding is in Johannesburg, S. Africa where it will be in the mid-30s. Sorry, couldnt resist that one!

I wore a lovely dress for a wedding in Italy last August and it will be perfect for this wedding - no-one has seen me in it, so its great. I made my own fascinator as I couldnt get what I wanted in the shops or in the colour. Just have a pashmina to wear if its chilly in the church or the evening.

Enjoy yourself at the wedding Rainbow08 and good luck with the outfit.

Meewwww Amelica2 !! Poor ladies stuck here in the snow and freezing and you drop your bit about the mid 3o's ! we'll get you for that one day - watch this space girls.

Re Hats to weddings or any head gear - its not a big deal, and I once sat next to a young lady going out to SA for a wedding whose hat box didn't fit in the overhead locker so I was made a temporary custodian for it, each of the many times that she went to the loo! It was hillarious to watch the stewardesses trying to fathom out who this humungous hat box belonged to and I really didn't want to prick her bubble. That was quite some time ago so she could well be one of us now!

Rcey, who was it who said she has just come back from being in 28deg??? :-)

My fascinator certainly wont take up much room in my luggage - hats off to that I say

Re: What to wear for February Wedding?

Weddings used to be so easy. Beautiful day clothes and a hat. I have been to weddings with just that, then to other ones where I have worn day clothes and changed into evening wear later, then weddings where everyone turned up in full black tie evening dress during the afternoon ready for the evening do (we were told to). It varies so much.
