Lovely Treat but.........

For Christmas my son's girlfriend has given me a voucher for a spa day at a very posh hotel. I'm really thrilled with such a lovely and thoughtful pressie but also a bit anxious -I'm not a very posh person. I'm overweight with lots of wobbly bits and think I may feel a bit intimidated by it all, but I know this probably cost a lot and wouldn't want to waste it. Has anyone done anything similar and can give me some tips or reassurance?
Thanks
BB

Please, please go! Are there treatments involved or use of the facilities?

Re: Lovely Treat but.........

The voucher includes 3 treatments, a light lunch and use of all the facilities. I'm just worried the place will be full of skinny beautiful people and I'll feel like a heffalump beside them!

Make sure that you do go, it will make you feel so good afterwards.
I have lots of wobbly bits and go with the girls yearly for a spa weekend. The people doing treatments are used to seeing all differant shapes and sizes.

You deserve to be pampered and what a wonderful present to get.

Tell the therapist that you're shy. If you have a massage they cover up the parts they aren't working on so you're not hanging out everywhere! Also, ask them not to massage any bits you don't like. I don't like my tummy and chest attended to so just say so!

Don`t worry, the skinny beautiful people have no need to go there. I once won a competition to stay a week at a health spa with a friend. We were amazed at how different everyone was, but we all got on because when you are all wearing a white towelling robe we all looked the same.

It will be great fun, make the most of it.

Wonderful! I love spa days. My daughter and try to do it regularly. Things we have learned:

Take some magazines or a book. You might get fed up swimming, and want to stretch out beside the pool.

Don't worry about the wobbly bits, but if you are selfconscious, take a sarong.

Take a spare swimsuit too, sitting around in a damp swimsuit can get uncomfortable. And if you are having a pedicure, take some flipflops so your nail varnish doesn't smudge.

And try and get a lift there and back. After all those treatments you might feel too relaxed to drive safely.

Enjoy!

BB - I have lots and lots of wobbly bits but have been to some days and one wonderful overnight stay at a posh hotel/spa. It's fantastic, and you can do as little or as much as you want and if you don't like something just leave (I left a dance class when I decided that I was the most un-coordinated person in the world!) The staff are there to make your day as good as possible. Your sons girlfriend must think a lot of you to give you such a great prezzie!

Enjoy it

Re: Lovely Treat but.........

i'm wobbly too and had a fantastic time at Titanic Spa in Huddersfield. once you have your robe on, no-one gives you a second glance, you dont have to swim if you dont want but when i'd been there for a couple of hours and seen all the different shapes and sizes i didn't care ! You'll really enjoy it, i didnt really want to go but am desperate to go back now !!

I've never been on a spa day, but would love too! Please book up and go and then you can tell me all about it!

Re: Lovely Treat but.........

I've been and didn't feel uncomfortable at all. I was given a lovely white fluffy robe and soon felt completely at ease. What you must remember is that they see people like you and me each and every day and no-one cares a bit about how you look! It's how you feel that's important and at the end of it you will feel wonderful!

I think I'll start surfing for a deal right away, I'm so totally envious!

I think you are convincing me girls! Also, I've decided to buy my daughter the same voucher for her birthday so that we can go together. Her birthday coincides with her finishing her 3 years training as a nurse so she deserves a nice treat as well.I know I shouldnt worry about how I look and normally I can cope when I have my clothes on!

Re: Lovely Treat but.........

Hi bonnieblooming, I was just about to ask if you knew someone rich enough to go with you that you wouldn't be embarrassed asking, but your own solution is much better - you couldn't suggest your son pays for his girlfriend to go too?
I've been a couple of times and couldn't see who was fat or who was thin because everyone has their robes on.
