Can you still get tester perfumes

I am looking for a new perfume - I have worn the same ones for years and I am bored.

I have very funny skin (Channel NO 5 smells like compost on me)and I hate going around department stores spraying on scents - I always end up smelling like a back alley and can never remember which is which.

You used to get testers to try at home - either in magazines or from the perfume counters, you don't seem to find them now

Does anyone know if you can still get them from somewhere?

Thanks

Re: Can you still get tester perfumes

Yes, just ask in the stores.
You may like to know this. I was always complaining that however much I pay for perfumes, they fade to nothing and yet my husband's aftershave smells great even the next morning! So, in his lunch hour (bless him) he wentto a large dept store to ask! They said there are only two traditional perfume houses left now, Guerlain and Chanel, all the rest are chemicals.
So, I discovered Cocoa Mademoiselle by Chanel.
I've got funny skin too, and some fragrances smell like the zoo on me!
I like Estee Lauder Knowing too.
If they smell funny on your skin, you can try spraying onto your hair and some jewellry (not pearls though!).

gilley - I read somewhere recently that spraying perfume on your wrists and then rubbing them together spoils the fragrance. Spray on each wrist separately - and the collar bone is a better place to spray than the neck.

Lizzie,
If we're doing what the perfumiers say, we should spray into the air and walk through the mist! Seems a waste to me!

Re: Can you still get tester perfumes

Thanks girls,

I shall continue to pester the perfume counters for samples - I was turned away twice at Debenhams and very condecendingly told to try the testers in the store.

I shall try Guerlain and Chanel asap

Re: Can you still get tester perfumes

hold your breath Lizzie I spray above my head & raise my face after a couple of seconds, it works a treat, close your eyes of course
I also spray the small of my back & the back of my neck as I really hate the strong odour of some perfumes, I like to keep it sub-tle! I tend to use eau de parfum rather than the stronger stuff, I move away from anyone who has strong perfume on, its really unnecessary
Interesting about Guerlain & Chanel....

Likewise citygirl I prefer Eau de parfum. Also surprised about Guerlain and Chanel - I would have thought Givenchy were ok.

Re: Can you still get tester perfumes

To add to my post above, can anyone recommend a perfume that stays strong?
I'm thinking of finding a man's that isn't overly masculine, so that it won't fade on me!

Kate - Dolce and Gabbana's Light Blue is a ladies one that smells nice and lasts well. Usually prompts people to comment on it. You can get a mens version too.

Is that a way of telling me the other one does cost £85?

Kate1.......If you like Knowing, which I do, then you will probably like: Narciso rodriguez (for her)....

The one in the black bottle is the nicest, and it definately stays on. I think it is about £90.00, but it is very sensual.

You will probably only get it in department stores, as I don't think places like the perfume shop do it.

Re: Can you still get tester perfumes

I'm quite intrigued by these aftershave suggestions - now I think about it they do seem to last a long time and stay smelling fresh.

So, before I get humiliated at the perfume counters again - do they do the little testers for men or is that just a ladies thing?

Thanks for the suggestions

Re: Can you still get tester perfumes

P.S.

That is correct you should never rub your wrists together after spraying the perfume, as it breaks the molicules up and perverts the smell of the perfume. You should just let it dry naturally.

Perfume smells different of differenr people, because of the things we eat. Say for instance you eat alot of garlic, and as we all know that permetes the skin, well that mixed with perfume...= something entirely different to what is in the bottle.....if you get my drift

Dior Eau Sauvage. Spicy and lemony. I love it on men and women, and it lasts.

Why do aftershaves and mens colognes last longer than perfume?

Re: Can you still get tester perfumes

If you ask at the perfume counter in Boots the ladies will give you a handful. I explained that I was going on a trip on a motorbike and they asked if I had a favourite. Got a nice selection.

Jo Malone Lime Basil and Mandarin or Grapefruit cologne. They do a few that are unisex and they do little tester tubes. If you go onto the website and have a nosey then email Customer care they will send out 2 testers at a time in the post.If you live near a Harvey Nicks or one of their stores you can go in and sniff a few.

Re: Can you still get tester perfumes

Dior Homme is nice and adrogenous (?) - the original one, not extreme or sport. Smells a bit like Dior Dune for women, but not so sickly sweet.

Narciso Rodriguez do an eau de parfum for under £40 and its lovely, but didnt last very long.

The new rose parfum by Gaultier is really lovely - rather old fashioned parfum smell and unlike his usual ones.

House of Fraser have them all and were really generous with samples.
