eyelid surgery ....help
|
|
I have toyed with the idea of eyelid surgery for some time but am a coward and having come through breast cancer wonder whether I am mad to elect for surgery. i had terrible swelling of my eyes and face when I was a teenager and the slackeneing around my eyes has got worse over the years ! I have always taken a pride in my appearance but do not like to look in the mirror now. Has anyone had this done who could give me an honest appraisal of the op and afterwards....suggestions for a surgeon would be good too..

Hi daniel1 - I had eyelid surgery in January. The slackening of my eyelids was so bad that it was affecting the vision in my right eye. Plus I felt I looked constantly angry or sad because of the way my eyes looked, and that's so not who I am. I finally decided to have it done and I am so glad that I did. I can't help you with a surgeon because I had it done in the States, but if I were you I'd be very cautious and do a lot of research first if you decide to go ahead. If you want more details pm me and I'll give you the whole scoop!

Sorry daniel I haven't any experience of the op but from what I've read it seems to be a fairly straight forward op with grear results.I think if I were going to have it done I would try to find someone who does reconstructive surgery on the NHS and make sure they have all the right qualifications.Don't necessarily go for the cheapest and if you have a consultation ask questions eg how many of these ops do they do per year and have they got photos you can see of their work.If you are not happy about anything to do with them WALK AWAY and find someone else. Before you consider surgery have you tried Botox ? It might give you the lift that you need.If you look up that 10 years younger programme website it gives the information on the surgeons they use. I've got a book on aging by Dr Miriam Stoppard and she reckons that this op gives good results when done well.Let us know what you decide and good luck

Petroushka have you anything you could tell me which might be useful because it's something I might consider myself in the future?

Some one I know had it done on the NHS as it was affecting his sight. He still had the stitches in and I could not tell. It was a brilliant job.

Your GP should be able to refer you to the right plastic surgeon in your area

My Mom had this done on the NHS a few years ago at the eye hospital. The results were very good. I want mine done now as I have heavy lids too and I know what you mean about looking sad or miserable. I have no idea how to apply eye shadow either.
