Just come back from clothes shopping...........

Bought a couple of tops and a skirt from Next and New Look, really wanted a new casual jacket and some casual cut off trousers but could not find any that I liked or thought looked ok on me (nearly 47!)

Does anyone else around my age feel that clothes are either too young or too old??

I am 4ft11" size 6/8 bottom and 12/14 top so don't really have a model like figure!!

I really struggle and probably need a go with Gok thingy but would probably not do the naked bit!!

I'd like to know how others feel and where you go shopping

Re: Just come back from clothes shopping...........

Sounds like a model figure to me!!!

I know what you mean ajr, we dont want to look like mutton dressed as lamb, as they say, but dont want to look frumpy either. It is quite hard to find the right balance. I still like to dress fashionably but definately take a bit more care now when choosing clothes, I used to buy a lot of maybe cheaper clothes and then not like the fit etc. so trying to spend more on just a few items. But if I spot a bargain ......... oh well.

Re: Just come back from clothes shopping...........

Hi ajr1210

I love shopping, but not for clothes. I hate clothes shopping with a passion, I am short and round and usually buy in Anne Harvey (often too old), Evens (mostly far too young and scruffy), simpleybe and so on - no point stressing myself out with "normal" shops, the worse thing is that the pettit (I say this with a wry smile as that's not a descriptipn I usually apply to my self)clothes designed for the shorter woman are few and far between, I live in trousers from simpleybe which I can get in a wide and short leg, I order a few new pairs every six months or so and bulk buy tops when i find ones that i like, then I try and avoid the shops. It's too depressing, I'd much rather buy books, cd's, gadgets, well anything really rather than clothes. As for Gok, he'd struggle with me! I am loosing weight (another story), but I suspect that no matter how much I loose, I still won't enjoy clothes shopping. Any way back to the point - with my restricted shopping oppertunites most of clothes are deffinately far to old and even more far too young - oh well!

Have a good day

Re: Just come back from clothes shopping...........

Know what you mean. There are a lot of pretty dresses around but they are too short for ladies past a certain age. Mind you at 4'11" they might be okay for you but I'm 5'3" and still too young. Following on from my previous post about shorts, had a try on in M&S the other day and came back empty handed. So decided I will stick with skirts and the one pair of cut offs I got from Sainsburys. Think it is just a case of comfy shoes and a lot of legwork.

Re: Just come back from clothes shopping...........

I went shopping last Saturday for shoes and casual tops. Got loads of work clothes but when it comes to tops with jeans...i haven't got anything.

Went into the shops my daughter usually shops in Topshop etc and they had lovely stuff but thought it is too young so went in my shops principles, next, wallis etc ....god it was boring!! Has anyone seen GAP lately ...everything is white!!!

I do think there is a gap in the market for a certain age of ladies who are not too old to wear trendy fashionable clothes but cannot get away with Topshop!!

Any budding designers out there???

Re: Just come back from clothes shopping...........

I went out this morning clothes shopping. I was determined not to come home empty-handed.

Don't you think that absolutely everyone seems to have decided they have nothing to wear and are hitting the shops. Everywhere I went was manic!
