Linen trousers
|
|
After my Jeans success the other day I decided to look for some linen trousers today (in case the summer arrives) but it was all too good to be true! In most I looked like an unmade bed. Back to being a depressed shopper. BB

Have a look in Monsoon they have great linen trousers with a flattering fit, bought some last year and wore them throughout the summer

"an unmade bed" LOL
Know just what you mean!

Re: Linen trousers

When linen suits were first time round (back in mid 90s?) and men were wearing them in offices, one of my colleagues (a lovely, but rather vertically challenged chap) took to wearing one.
Rather cruelly I thought, his colleagues took to referring to him as the 8th Dwarf - Crumply.

Re: Linen trousers

I find the linen mix trousers a better idea. They look the part without so much creasing.

Re: Linen trousers

Absolutely hollyUK. You must have a mix and I noticed that more shops are doing that this year. 100% linen looks beautiful for the first 2 minutes and then you have had it. My OH bought a linen/cotton mix jacket about 4 years ago in Edinburgh, really be chance, and it still looks nice.

Oh Twinsmum! You did make me larf!!! I do like linen but (and I don't know if it's me and my posteriorly challenged figure) but after I've sat in linen trousers for about five minutes they seem to stretch and go massively baggy - not to mention crumply! Is it just me??

Re: Linen trousers

Hi Bonnieblooming - with Linen trousers I have found that no matter how much you pay for them you still get the same crumply unmade bed look! The only ones I would highly recommend at those from either Principles or Wallis which tend to be a thicker linen and are sometimes lined....I couldn't get through the summer (wot summer???!!) with my white linen pants! Mind you, can anybody solve me the 'unsightly knicker problem' that comes with white linen trousers??? Apart from going commando (doesn't feel right somehow!), no knickers ever look right and at my age (51), G-strings get the thumbs down in disgust from the kids! Help!

Re: Linen trousers

I agree with you Jules, no matter what they will always look creased - I spend my days saying 'If it's Natural it creases'!!! - everytime I look at photo's of me in linen I say never again, I look like a sack of potatoes!! - but I still love linen!!.
As for the knickers - only wear flesh toned trouser pants, as mentioned before Primark sell fab ones xxx

Re: Linen trousers

Jules, big knickers from M&S will solve the problem but be careful to check the thickness of the trouser material or the colour might show through.

Re: Linen trousers

M&S do some brilliant seamless and hemless pants. Great for wearing under trousers.

Re: Linen trousers

I love loose linen trousers, but they never seem to keep their shape. I buy mine from Tesco, cheap and cheerful. If they last one season, then that's okay. I've got black, brown, cream and white. I never buy expensive white trousers, because I can guarantee if I do I'll get coffee or red wine on then the first time I wear them

Re: Linen trousers

I've got white knickers from Marks and soaked them in cold tea. (Made with a couple of bags and no milk or sugar). It stains them to whatever shade you want depending on how many bags. I confidently wear white trousers with my shaded knickers!!

Re: Linen trousers

I think Monsoon are great for linen , but the best linen I have are by Irish designer Paul Costeloe , they are usually really expensive, but I got my last pair from TKMaxx for £39.99 when they are really £150 a pair!!! - They are beautiful!!

Re: Linen trousers

But everyone knows that if they are crumpled they ARE linen. Love 'em. Darker shades don't look so creased, nor do wide legs.

Re: Linen trousers

Couldnt live without linen trousers, bought a denim look pair from Next this year, have them in all colours from various places, the wide leg is quite flattering and ooooohhhh soooo comfy with me crocs!!!

Re: Linen trousers

I always do a cool wash - seems to work.
For ironing, I use an easy iron spray on them - you can get it in most supermarkets. It seems to help them to resist creasing when I wear them too. Makes them look nicely crumpled, and not look as if I have slept in them

Re: Linen trousers

Just washed a pair of linen cut offs in the normal way, on 30 deg and ironed them inside out with a steam iron. They've come up well but I'll look like a rag bag 5 mins after I put them on so I'm NOT taking them on holiday.

Re: Linen trousers

Like most of you I just love linen. In fact most of my summer wardrobe consists of the stuff. The problem is when I go on holiday I hate my clothes to look as if I've just taken them out of my suitcase (even when I hang them up) you can still see the folds in the material. Hubby says why bother, no-one will notice! I can't take a travel iron with me as limited as to what I can put in my case so any tips please! Does rolling things up really help.... or should I just go with the crumpled look? Help Shanti

Re: Linen trousers

My linen trousers go in the wash with everything else. Usually at 30 but if I don't remember to reset the temperature they survive 40 ok (my last machine didn't go any lower than 40 anyway).

Re: Linen trousers

Hi Shanti, Read somewhere a few years ago about rolling clothes when packing. I have done this since and it really works. For linen trousers and skirts I would put a towel or something non crease inside and roll around. You can get so much more into a suitcase doing this. Also when you arrive at your destination you just unroll and hang up. Less creases all round.

Why is it....
...that Italian men look gorgeous in linen
BUT British men don't????
Answers on a post card...

Re: Linen trousers

Think I remember reading somewhere that tissue paper will stop linen and other materials creasing when packed.

Hi Just to let you know I got some linen mix trousers - they are by a company call Saloos and were advertised on the Ideal World shopping channel - good fit and length and I bought 2 pairs - black and a lovely shade of mocha.I did order a white pair as well but then thought that they just were not practical in a house with 2 slobbering black labradors! They looked great but are being returned!
