As a pear shaped person I find it very difficult to get jeans that fit properly - especially one's that sit on the waist(I can't bear those low rise jobs)they always end up having a big gap at the back of the waist. So I decided that I was going to spend a bit of money and get a pair that fitted properly and were comfortable. After much huffing, puffing and trying on in several well know stores and after much depression at the fact I seemed to be a size bigger when I tried them on than I had been when I came in the shop - I finally found the most comfy and fashionable jeans I have had in a long time. Actually I've got 2 pairs - one pair in deep dyed denim £10 from Tesco and one pair in chocolate brown denim £10 from a Cotton Traders outlet store. I cannot beleive my luck!! I didn't even try the Tesco pair on as I thought I would do it at home and return them when I did my next shop - and I was sure I would be returning them.
But yesterday I had a brainwave - I just need a manufacturer to take it up. When we can have skinny, bootcut, straight, flared and wide leg. Also high waist, low rise, below the waist, hipster and 'boyfiend' - why can we not have pearshaped, apple shaped, curvy and straight? Wouldn't it be great?
And on the subject of low rise jeans is anyone else fed up seeing more of womens bottoms than they want? We were at the cinema recently and a young mum was bending over sorting out her kids with drinks etc - builders bum didn't come close to describing what we were treated too! I'm no fuddy duddy but I cannot see what is attractive about a large expanse of bottom oozing over the top of jeans.
Needless to say my 2 pairs cover all eventualities!!

I've got jeans in my wardrobe that will cover all sizes and shapes cos I've probably been able to fit them all at some stage. Now need the diet to work and get in to some of them.
Will try Tescos but usually have trouble getting long enough leg length. Cheers for the tip though.

Great idea! I wish they would! I too don't like low rise - my tummy looks pretty awful showcased in this manner and as for my rear end ...

I haven't worn jeans for a long time because I couldn't get any that looked good, but got some in M&S recently - £15 elasticated waist (I know real jeans don't do that, but my top covers that bit!)and they fit really well.

M&S was the shop I grew a size just walking in the door - and I thought their sizes were supposed to be generous!

After reading a similar post recently I went out and bought some from M&S that fitted on the waist and were bootcut and stretchy, but I fell inbetween 2 sizes, so bought the largest but after wearing them for about half an hour they felt baggy! so took them back, but alot of forumers do recommend them - they were called Roma.

Best jeans I have ever bought,were at Monsoon,On the waist,not too narrow not too wide.Wish I'd bought 2 pairs

I agree about M&S bonnie blooming- except for their Per Una range. I can actuallhy go for a size down- very good for the ego!!

I thought the fashion was supposed, at long last, to be changing to waisted jeans. Those low lying things really don't flatter anyone and for "ladies of a certain age" make jean buying impossible. I've bought from Tesco in the past and they were pretty good. Sainsburys do a nice shape but are too low. There are often articles in magazines about the best jeans for a particular shape but I'm not too convinced as they concentrate more on the leg shape than the waist. I'm apple shaped and I read somewhere that apples shouldn't wear jeans. Trouble is, I live in them! My last ones were bought at New Look for £10 and look good. Have a white pair hanging in the wardrobe for if we ever get summer

Gap Curvy are good for me as I too suffer from baggy waist syndrome, but if anyone finds some linens that are good please let me know. The pair I have lived and died in are ...............Primark £10 bought two summers ago now and they are telling me they want to go to duster land having served me well!

I think the single greatest advance in jeans technology has been the introduction of a lycra/cotton blend - covers a range of 'defects' then! And very forgiving of increase/loss of a few pounds as you go along.
Totally agree with the points about the 'low-rise' concept - completely wasted about £60 on a snazzy pair of Bodens last year that kept sliding down over my hips - don't have a particular muffin-top problem (though Twiggy I ain't) but I still found them the most uncomfortable item of clothing ever to roam the planet.

If you really want to feel depressed about buying jeans, come to France!!!
I too am pear shaped with very small waist. Since being in France (3 years) I have not been able to find any jeans at all as they are made for stick insects here. Even trying on a size 44 (Euro sizing=14UK I think) doesn't get anywhere near me.
Last pants I bought were in French Connection UK in Regent Street and a Next shop in Richmond, both size 14 and they fit beautifully!
So I continue to alternate between two pairs of jeans I bought with me from NZ which are fast becoming shoddy. There are so many great styles of jeans here that I just dream to be able to find a decent style to fit me,and that look good!
And of course it frustrates me when I see women much larger than me, wearing jeans; they may not look good, but at least they are in them!!
I live in hope, or until next UK trip...?!

I usually wear jeans that sit on the hips, but I know Next do really good jeans that come up to the waist, because I bought some recently and they're fab!

I am an average size and I still have problems getting jeans that fit nicely. I prefer high on the waist. But recently found some in a local boutique shop, called Not Your Daughters Jeans, NYDJ and they were so comfy I immediately bought them, slightly too long, but that can be sorted. Only problem was they were expensive £110 and I did act on impulse, having just been paid. Didn't tell the OH though. It is the most money I have spent on an item of clothing other than my outfit for D wedding. Had them a month and only worn them once. I feel guilty which is stopping me from wearing them, stupid isn't it. Next time I am in a city I am going to buy something at a more reasonable price, then I know I would happily wear the jeans without feeling guilty about the cost. How crazy.

It's spent - so enjoy, GailT !! Don't be like me with a 'it's only for best' mentality or you'll never wear anything in the wardrobe!
Putting something on that DOES cost a bit more than you normally spend can make you feel good about yourself, and raise your own sense of self-worth.
Climb into them, and tug on a nice jumper too - not a T-shirt day today I regret!

I had some gorgeous Basler stretch jeans which sat on the waist and were wide leg but although they were the most expensive pair I ever had, they also wore out faster. I thought I'd found a good pair in M&S but they slipped down the first time I wore them so I've passed them on.

Also have a white pair from New Look for a tenner susie blue! Had a week in Spain recently so was able to wear them and I thought they were amazing for the price! They come in different leg sizes which is excellent at that price
