French Women Don't Get Fat
|
|
Has anyone else read this by Mireille Guiliano, the ultimate non-diet book. Shows us how to eat with pleasure, balance and control. I found it very interesting and it opened up a new way for me of looking at food and portion control. It also has some good recipes. I think some of you Fabulous Forumers would find it interesting. Hello Shellseeker You really must read it especially if you are interested in anything french. I have the next one 'A French Woman for all Seasons' as well and dip into them for recipes and when need reminding of how to eat properly, which is quite often. Am a bit of a francophile mind so perhaps am biased. Enjoy Mazl

I read about this book some time ago in The Telegraph. It sounded interesting, just been over to Amazon and ordered it along with the other one...can't remember the name, something about All Seasons???
I got carried away and ordered the Japanese Women Don't get Fat or Old....at this rate I will have so much to read, I wont have time to eat...or get old!!!!! LOL

Bought it (FWDGF) in America. Good light-hearted read with scatterings of French phrases, good advice and humour. Really enjoyed it.

Hi, Like a few of you, I'm also a francophile and have read the book 'French Women Don't Get Fat', my brother has it at the moment, with strict instructions to return it after use. I like the female french woman's attitude towards food and fitness and try my best to live by their ethos. I manage to keep my weight in check and exercise regularly but am afraid I weaken occasionally and reading the book quickly gets me back on track.

You lot need to come to the school gates with me one day!! Oh yes they do!!!
They have exactly the same hang ups and issues that we do (only in French!!)

Hi Beausoleil
Actually, that's quite encouraging, thank you. Perhaps the book is referring more to the Parisian woman, I don't know? My own experience of France thus far is that the women dress very well, are not stick thin but keep their weight in check and wear stylish clothes that fit and flatter. However, that said I've never lived there, just holidayed occasionally and I guess I'm seeing everything through rose tinted spectacles! Do you enjoy living there?

i bought Sophie Dahl's recent book, which is mostly recipes, interspersed with her thoguhts on food. Ultimately, she came to realise that eating should still be enjoyable, in other words don't get hung up about wehte your proteins are equal to your carbs, don't cut anything out unless you really really have a proper allergy to casein or whatever and that it really is about moderation and making peace with your food. i also read Monica Seles autobiography, when she realised that so often she was eaing for no reason and it took a different mindset for her to be able to lose wight.
It's interesting that both women had to slow their lives down to enable that mindset to come to the fore. Can't find the brakes for my 100mph life at the moment.
Can recommend both books both from a reading perspective and some nice recipes as well as from having an insight into how they changed their diet mentality.

Yes they do. French women DO get fat. They just stay indoors when they do.
WE only see the slim ones going out.
