I have struggled with my weight all of my adult life. I have been successful in the past losing it all only then to put it all back on again and more....... The last few years I have gained and gained and now am the biggest I have ever been. I can honestly say I have joined SW and WW dozens of times on and off. I have tried everything. My GP isn't remotely interested and said I need to join a club. How can I get myself into the right frame of mind to do this? I joined a gym 2 weeks ago........only been once! I have plenty of reasons, motivation to do it but just can't seem to muster myself and get going. I will add that one of the reasons I do struggle with energy and the whole losing weight thing might be down to my Thyroid cancer. I'm hoping the mew medication I am getting in 3 weeks time might really help me. I don't even really know why I am posting this. I know that I am the only person who can do this for me. I think I just need to off load as I am so frustrated and down about it. Feel free to ignore

Hi beachbabe - it must be awful for you feeling so out of control - I know how thyroid problems can affect weight SIL had his thyroid removed and is really struggling with his ever increasing weight in spite of medication. Hopefully your new medication will help. Keep posting if it makes you feel better - it does you good to off load from time to time. I know you are the only one who can do anything about it but that doesn't make it any easier for you does it. |

Beach Babe if your Thyroid isn't functioning properly you will be feeling awful and it's very difficult to feel motivated feeling like that. I think the main thing you can do is to start feeling positive about yourself and loving yourself as you are now.Do things you enjoy doing and try not to focus on your weight too much. Have you checked out FF and MM posts on here they may help you not to feel alone in your struggles.Even if you don't want to join us FFs I would suggest that you get PMKs ,book and Cd "I can make you thin"Listening to his tape should help you feel more positive about yourself and,if you follow his rules ,you will lose weight.I put weight on because of a thyroid problem and have managed to lose it now with the help from this Forum and I'm sure you could too. Hi beachbabe, I know just how you feel. I dont have any thyroid problems but do have weight issues. Like you I have joined weight watchers and slimming world several times and now dont feel i can walk in there again. Was going to post on here to ask if anyone has tried adios tablets or the new alli tablets that are advertised. I am going on holiday in september and would love to lose some weight before then. Lets try and motivate each other taking it slowly but steady. Good luck and keep in touch. |

I have recently succeeded in losing 4 stone and so far have kept it off ( 6 months) in fact I have lost 3lbs since then. How did I do it? No tricks, no clubs, I talked to myself. In the past I have always tried to lose weight with a target of say 2 stones in 3 months. This time I said I wanted to lose weight as slowly as possible never more than 1lb a week-that's 52lbs in a year. I started off making a small change at a time, gradually adding another change as time went by. I didn't tell anyone I was dieting. Sometimes I had to eat more if I unexpectedly lost two pounds The pounds fell off. I eat in a totally different way and there is no longer any guilt about food. It worked for me, there are many right ways to do it. Good luck beach babe. |

Hi Rugby Mother what you did is very much like the PMK system. The whole idea is to forget dieting and forbidden foods, eat what you like when you are hungry and listen to your body and stop before you feel full. His system also encourages positive thinking about oneself and increases self esteem. It is possible to do it alone but having the support of the FFs on here really helped me succeed in my weight loss and hopefully I will manage to keep it off. BeachBabe you are not alone - Ive struggled with my weight ever since I had my children. We all know the right things to eat but its sticking to it I find hard - Im really impressed with Rugby Mothers approach and it sounds like a good way to think about weight loss. I think we expect too much of ourselves and fail miserably - then go on a binge and put it all on again. Maybe if we cut out one thing a week ie. crisps or chocolate and reduced our snacks - is that how it works? As from tomorrow Im giving up chocolate!!!! I will let you know how i get on.

Hi All I too am always overweight.. I have been diagnosed hypothyroid for the past 2 years. Since Xmas I have lost nearly a stone ...but only because a had a challenge from my GP! He gave me a date in April when I had to have my blood glucose levels & thyroid tested. He said if I didn't lose weight by then I would probably become diabetic. (I am genetically linked) i.e my mother & grandmother had late onset stage 2. This spurred me on so I got on my rowing machine ..did fast dog walking...& had a breakfast & only a ryvita & yohurt for lunch plus a small portion of whatever I made for the family tea> So up to June I was doing very well. But because I was cutting down on my food intake I constantly felt tired & lethargic, my skin became dry & I had constipation a lot of the time. In June I went on holiday. And began eating fish & chips , pasties, & ice cream AND doughnuts etc etc..(Yum bloody Yum! lol) Hence I have piled on almost all that weight again! And it only took me a week! I have every sympathy with anyone with the same overweight problem... And the key phrase "I just can't do it!" springs to mind!! |

Hey Beachbabe you are not on your own. I too am the heaviest I have ever been. I also have joined the various clubs in the past. Then a few weeks ago I decided I would really like to be able to wear ' something nice' when on holidays, instead of hiding myself under the swimsuit cover up. I started in WW again. Come with me - well not in person obviously. We can compare every week. I would love to have someone to talk to about the things I should and shouldn't eat. PM me if you feel like it. I need the go go go that maybe we could give each other. Desperate ! ! ! |
