Does anyone do this? My osteopath has suggested it would help my back and i've found a local place what does small groups in a dedicated studio (or even private sessions). It is a quite pricey but if it helps my back then i'm willing to pay. I did try a class before but I just didnt "get it" and felt the instructor couldnt get around to help everyone. I thought at least if I start with some private sessions it'll put me on the right track. Any experiences? |

I did Pilates and found that it helped my back because it strengthens the tummy muscles which in turn support the back by goin round. But I did do it for about 3 years. It may have been that my back ache got better in the 3 years anyway. I still have to be careful when bending a lot such as gardening and have to limit the time I spend doing certain jobs. I did think it was the Pilates that helped my back. Good luck Glitter. Loo |

Hello GQ. I have done Pilates for a few years and it really does help with all sorts of things. I think it's a really good idea to have private lessons first to get the positions right so that you don't do any damage. It really is a case of you get out of it what you put in. Hi GQ, I do pilates regularly and have tried several different teachers, all of whom knew their stuff but found the best way is to have sessions with only 2/3 together as the teacher can then cater for your particular needs. It can take a while for you to get into the swing of it but you should end up with better posture and less backache. There are many different exercises and a lot can be done on a mat but if you go somewhere that has equipment [ reformers etc] they can be very helpful. Cecilia

I've done Pilates too, it works on strengthening your 'core' muscles. I would recommend giving Pilates a second chance, can you check out the teacher's qualifications before committing yourself? |

I found it really helped my posture. The first time I tried it it didn't seem too strenuous but boy did I feel it the next day! I'd like to do it on a regular basis. |

I took the plunge and i've started a six week course of personal tuition. I had my first session this morning and it was great having someone concentrating solely on me. The instructor was lovely and really encouraging and best of all I actually enjoyed it

I am so pleased to hear you enoyed your Pilates lesson GQ as I was wondering how you would get on. I have been thinking about starting Pilates again myself. I went to classes at the gym, but didn't get too much our of it. So maybe private sessions or a smaller class is the way to go. |

I've been doing it for years and had a knee op a year ago so went for private sessions which are sometimes torture but I can wear my heels again |

The nice thing was I was able to say "I don't understand" or "there's a bit of a pain here - is that ok?" Normally in a class I would have just shut up and suffered. |
