Really, really sore neck
|
Have got an aching neck right down to my shoulder, just on the right-hand side.
Had been to the dentish 'cause of toothache also on right hand side - he took x-rays which showed teeth okay (that was a first!) but that my sinus was large on that side.
The other night in bed, it honestly felt as though I had an elephant sitting on my neck it was so sore. Couldn't move my head at all, even to drink some water (it ended up all over the sheets!).
Have made an appointment at the Doc for this afternoon, but am wondering if I should be seeing the dentist about it instead.
Any neck experts around?
Desperate to clear it up as off to York tomorrow!

Im no expert Elsie, but it sounds to me that you have pulled a muscle somewhere between your shoulder blades, If you cant tilt your head back or from side to side, this may have trapped a nerve too.
Ive been there and done that Elsie, and its awful. If you have got someone to massage it out that will help, take a couple of paracetamol too.
Unfortunately, this takes a few days to settle again.
Good look at the Drs.

Thanks mjm. Am dosed up on diclofenac as this same thing happened during the summer. 'Spose I'm just being impatient and in desparate need of an instant cure!
I can't tilt it to the right (last time it happened it was backwards that I couldn't move it) so could be a trapped nerve there.
Will just have to accept that my dancing at York won't be up to it's usually very high standard!!!

A quick trip to the osteopath for a neck stretch and massage should ease it off, but guess tricky to get an appointment today at such short notice.
Sounds as though you slept with it cricked and it sort of stuck! Diclofenac should ease the inflamation or some Nurofen Plus which work the oracle with me.

Right, back from the docs. I've got (can't remember first word) spondulosis???
Anyway, have to sleep with 2.......pillows (ha!) and wear a very fetching neck collar which makes me feel as though I'm being strangled.
Only have to wear collar at night. Just as well as I look as though I'm ready to go trick or treating!

Oh Dear Elsie that sounds awful.Get well soon.
I get a really bad neck from sitting on here, because I wear varifocals, and I have to tip my head backwards to read the posts. My neck creaks something chronic, and I may have to give up the forum!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's it - cervical spondylosis!
The neck collar is helping - except it's so blummin wide that I'm sore where it rubs!
He did ask if I was getting pins and needles in my pinkie, which I said 'no' to, but have now realised that I am. Is that bad?
Tell you what, it's heaven for a hyponchondriac like me to have a friend like you!

Elsie, having pins and needles would be common, and a way of diagnosing spondylosis.
Cervical Spondylosis is simply osteoarthrosis of the spine in the neck, and results in years of wear and tear. The intervertbral discs become narrowed and extra spurs of bone encroach into the spinal canal and nerve tunnels, thats why your getting pins and needles!

Not so bad now thanks, Perry.
Neck collar is a bit of a passion killer at bedtime tho'!
Thanks to Dr mjm, OBE, I'm now very knowledgeable about why I've been in so much pain!
