I am to lose weight because I have high cholesterol and heart disease runs in family. Dietician says she doesnt want me to go "on a diet" but to eat sensibly, so I have tried but have failed miserably, so decided this week to do Weight Watchers, as I have all the upto date books etc... So why am starting to feel faint and hungry, I am following the daily points allowance system and doing the right things. Should I just give up trying to lose weight and accept that I'm going to be big for the rest of my life. P.S. my family are big "boned" |

No Mrs Hinge don't accept you are going to be "big"....the way I see it is...maybe your are cutting 'out' or 'down' on your intake too quickly??? as if you are used to having certain amounts of food/meals in a day then if you cut down to drastically then you will feel faint with hunger as your body is reacting a bit. Maybe try the WW diet - but not as rigidly as they suggest - just cut down a bit each day til you feel comfortable??? I did follow the WW diet a few years back o n line...and it really DOES work...and I still use some of their recipes now...so good luck Mrs H....you can do it !!!!! Marsha

Hi Mar5ha I hadnt thought of just cutting out a bit at a time. I too did WW 10 yrs ago and lost 2 1/2 stone, sadly put most of it back on, will now think my regime through and just cut things down gradually. |

Hi Mrs Hinge - that's really good advice from Mar5ha. I decided in August that I really needed to lose weight, but wanted to avoid dieting at all costs (I was really obsessive about it in my 30s and didn't want to be sucked into that kind of scenario again). I put out a cry for help on this forum and was encouraged to join the Flabuless Forumers. The good news is that with the support of the lovely ladies on here, I've managed to lose 10 lbs - I am eating whatever I want, just less of it and ONLY eating when hungry and stopping when not hungry. This is a method advocated by a well known hypnotist who we refer to as PMK. It has been a revelation to me and I can honestly say I don't feel as if I'm dieting or denying myself anything. You can DO it. I always tell myself that I didn't put the weight on overnight and so I don't expect to lose it overnight either. I do hope that it will stay off forever! |

Hi again Mrs Hinge, first hair, now diets, our paths seem to keep crossing today. I've done W/W and it's a really effective way of losing weight, maintaining the weight loss is a different matter altogether but that's the case with any diet isn't it? Are you on the correct number of points - worth double checking? If this is your first week then maybe you are just adjusting to eating less. I felt hungry at times but never faint so not sure what to suggest about that. Maybe choose foods that have a lower GI so less fluctuation in blood sugar (good for lowering cholesterol too I think). The PMK advice sounds good and I'm going to look in to that myself. Whatever method of weight loss you decide - good luck and stick with it. Sweetpeasue |

The other thing is to try and increase your calorie output. As a total gymphobe, I took up walking and my average steps moved from around 6000 to 15,000 per day. Or take up some other activity that you enjoy, swimming - they often have ladies only nights-, dancing, horse riding whatever you think you might be able to stick at. I did say I walked, but today I have mostly been ark building

thanks for the replies, i'm having a lets ask my virtual friends day. AllyL you are right I didnt put the weight on overnight so it wont come off straight away, sweetpeasue I dont know what PMK is but I too am going to look into it. chilla I used to go swimming but gave it up when I moved here about 10yrs ago.Shall think about taking it up again, the thing is I know I should lose weight as my back is suffering and I am finding it difficult to walk with out getting out of breath. thank you all so much for your kind advice. |
