Bad news ....the C word

well ladies, I've finally had the results back from my thyroid surgery and I'm afraid to say it's cancer.

I now have to have another operation to remove the rest of my thyroid and radio active treatment.

I am completely shell shocked and very frightened.

BB xx

Re: Bad news ....the C word

Beachbabe, that's shocking news, I'm not surprised you're feeling the way you are. I know nothing about thyroid cancer, but I do know that there are so many people who have had different types of cancer (myself included) who've had successful treatment and once it's over go on to lead normal lives. Keep thinking positive thoughts and picture yourself better. I read (and listened to) this book and cd and it helped me enormously. x

Beachbabe, am so sorry for your news, what a terrible shock, but do keep positive, its the only way.
I had a borderline tumour removed in April from my ovary, which was quite traumatic, but can't imagine how you feel at this mo with the C word.

Re: Bad news ....the C word

Hi Beach Babe, so sorry to hear your news, course you are shcoked and frightened. That C word frightens everyone. Make sure you ask all the questions that are going through your head. My younger sister was diagnosed with thyroid cancer over 2 years ago. Most of her thyroid was taken away within weeks and she had follow on treatment, Major problem for her was that lost the baby she was carrying, only about 6 weeks in, through the after treatment. Shame because she was 44 and it was her first child. A year later she had another scare, but it was checked and it was just scar tissue. Tommorow she is coming to celebrate my birthday with me, yes she is fit and well and very healthy, so I will ask her if she can tell me anything useful that I can pass on to you.

Re: Bad news ....the C word

Thank you for all your kind words - how can I not be positive with you lot around me?

I've started a list of questions which I'm going to bombard the poor surgeon with on Monday. I'm sure it'll get a lot longer too.

Can anyone tell me if I will be able to claim Statutory sick pay or incapacity benefit. I have already used up all of my sick pay allowance at work with the first operation. I'm stressing so much that I won't be paid for any more time off.

Thank you

BB x

Re: Bad news ....the C word

Hi Beachbabe,
The C word holds a lot of fear but seriously it may not mean you are about to pop your clogs. My daugher had it 2 years ago (aged 21). We were all scared and frightened but she is now completely clear and working in a very stressful job and revelling in it.
I am going through a cancer scare myself (Colon) and very high cholesterol levels and other probs with my blood, but I think keeping as positive as poss is the secret. Obviously there are times when the last thing you feel is positive and that's when to yell for help and support - I'll be here if you want to PM me. Sending lots of love and please keep your fingers crossed for me for tomorrow morning's appt with my GP and next Thursday when I have a colonoscopy and biopsy to see if the growth in my colon is cancerous.
Sending you loads of love, chocolate and hugs. Works for me!!
