Restless legs Syndrome!!!!AGHHHH!!!!!!
|
|
I know the has been a post on this subject before, but I'm rubbish at using the search thingy, I never come up with anything! Anyway does anyone have a miracle cure or any help suggestions for the above, I have a terrible time if I go to the theatre, cinema, on a flight or in fact anywhere where I feel hemmed in, to say I wriggle is an understatement, it is the most overwhelming desire to move, I writhe in my seat and just want to scream, when I come out of a theatre or off a flight I'm exghausted, I feel as if I've done 3 hours aerobics. I've tried taking aspirin, rescue remedy and natracalms, but nothing helps...........

I feel for you Sunbeam as I go through stages of suffering from that and it is so painful as well. I mainly get it when Im tired which is quite often.
If there is anything out there that can help with this Im sure we would be grateful of any suggestions as it is not nice.

Me too. With me it's usually when I've been standing around in heels for quite a while and am tired anyway. I'm ok if I lie down but sitting is the worst, usually when OH is driving us home from a night out. Wish I knew how to stop it or at least to stop me feeling like I want to scrape my skin off!

You have my sympathy - let me know if you find a cure. I tend to get it when I'm tired, and the only cure I've found is to go to bed and get a good night's sleep! Mine started when I was first pregnant (in 1974/75!!) and the midwife assured me it would go once the baby was born. The baby is now 33 with two children of her own, and I've still got it!

Oh Sunbeam you could be me! If you hear of anything that helps please let me know. The logical part of my brain tells me this is just a coincidence but as soon as I let the thought of my restless legs in to my brain (usually just about to nod off or, as you say, in the theatre etc it immediately leaps in to action!!

I sympathise as i have it too - it drives me mad! I usually get mine when i'm sitting watching tv - at about 10pm when the news comes on (coincidence?) i often get it at night in bed - i find getting up and walking around can help and standing about a foot from a wall and leaning into the wall with my hands so that i feel my leg muscles stretched - i do this about 10 times and it seems to help - sometimes the more i think about it the worse it gets.
its got a proper name: eckborn syndrome and theres a website google RLS and /or eckborn syndrome. i heard it might be connected to a deficiency of something - maybe magnesium.
GOOD LUCK

I had this once, for about three nights. It was absolutely awful, but I would never have known had I not been through it. In fact, I am terrified of getting the problem again. I have no idea why it started and no idea why it ended, but it did. I think there was a natural remedy such as putting brown paper in the bed or something but I never tried it. Let's hope someone else can come up with something. I agree with Bellan by the way, the more I thought about it the worse it got.

Well at least you've made me feel it's not just me going mad ladies, we obviously all get it in the same circumstances, when I had it at the cinema on Monday night I was beside myself by the time I came out, my tummy hurt from straining to keep my legs still, yet 20 minutes later in the restuarant I wasn't doing it! I'll have a look on the web site thanks bellan, although when I've looked before, the medical route seems to using drugs used for Parkinsons, which I felt seemed a bit extreme.

I asked this question a little while ago. Forumers suggested taking Magnesium and Zinc and also Folic Acid. I am pleased to report that I did this and it seems to have worked! I just bought what was available at the chemist and take them occasionally now!

I always used to get this, worse when pregnant, then was put on iron tablets, cured!! Since then, realised that multi-vit tablets with extra minerals (could be the iron or something else) is enough to prevent it thank goodness. Come to think of it, it hasnt been a problem recently (no periods!)

Dont know if this answer is of any use but when visiting a lavender museum in Provence I bought some cream that is supposed to help. It is a combination of lavender and mentholyptus and its great. Yhe lavender relaxes and maybe the menthol does too. Its good stuff and we used it on tuesday night before 11 year old started school-she was nervous and her legs"wouldnt relax". Its natural too.

Well I dont know if this will help anyone, but someone told me the other day that if they get cramp (which is what my RLS feels like sometimes), they just put some salt on their tongue and it goes away. Apparently it is your body telling you that the salt level in your body is low.
One night I could not sleep due to very fidgety and painful legs so I got up and put some salt on my toungue. Went back to bed and I was soon asleep. Dont know if it was just coincidence or it worked. But it is worth a try.
