Aluminium free deodorant
|
|
Anyone have any clues? My OH wants an alum free deodorant and I looked in Morrisons and Boots but couldn't find one.
I looked online and found some on greenpeople.co.uk site but I don't want to just order it before my lovely friends here have had their input!

Hi Lizzy
Sainsburys sell Pit Rok natural spray deodorant. They do a spray and a block roll on one. With perfume or without.
I changed after a similar post a while ago. There was a report that aluminium in deodorants was linked to breast cancer and this one was recommended by someone on here.
It works and costs just over £3 but lasts for ages.

That's great Jen, I'll go this weekend and get some. Would have to be block/roll on as OH doesn't like using sprays unless they are more like a pump action.

I use one called Crystal Spring from a local health food shop. It's also available on line. You just pop it under the tap and roll it on. Just bought a new one for £4.99 but the last one's still got a month or more left and I've had it since September. My OH has used it on occasion when he's run out and says it works well (he's an agricultural engineer so is fairly active). I actually got it because he heard it recommended on the Steve Wright radio show by Janey Lee Grace who's into everything natural.

There are a few aluminium free deodorants but I have only ever seen one aluminium free anti-persperant. It was in a health food shop and I cannot remember what it was called. I think it was something to do with Tea Tree. The ingredient in it is zinc which apparently is natural to our bodies. I know that our bodies do not need or use aluminium in any form so we have to steer clear of it in anything.

The crystal block type are great. OH was getting a rash from ordinary deo and has been using the crystal type for years. It even works in the Oz heat!

Issi, "Thursday Plantation" (from Oz) make a Tea Tree anti perspirant.

Hi
I use BIONSEN which is aluminium free and available from Boots. I use the solid stick which lasts for ages but they do a roll on as well - first deodorant I have ever used that doesn't irritate my skin - and it works.

Hi, OH and I both use BIONSEN which is in Boots and Tesco and lots of places. I have used it for several years since learning of the link with breast cancer. I also do not use talcum powder because of the report of links with cancer. Has anyone else heard about this or has it been given an all clear? Actually I find using an all over moisturiser much nicer than talc anyway. What do you all think?

hi Body shop did one - for men, umm body mechanics for men, deoderant stick. - not anti persperant. Do they still do it, anyone kno?

I've just asked my D who works at Body Shop, she said at the shop she is in they stock, activist and Aloe Vera deoderants.

Hi Mayday. I gave up using any fragrant things in the bath or shower a few years ago. I have not used body lotion for years either. I sometimes use an aloe vera moisturiser on my legs, but other than that there is no need. Apparently whatever we use on our bodies can get into our system so the less artificial creams and lotions the better. Aveda shampoos are practically completely organic and there are lots of organic soaps now. I have also read that eau de toilette is better than perfume because it has less pthalates. It's a minefield out there!

Hi Issi,
You are obviously still a 'sweet young thing'! As you get older the skin dries out more so I find a gentle moisturiser is helpful.....mostly on arms and legs to try to avoid looking like a prune!! Though I agree it is a minefield and one way or another unwanted chemicals are going to get into the system. I try to stick to natural things as much as poss. Thanks for your response.

There is also Dr Hauschka. It is expensive but organic. My problem is with formaldehyde and formaldehyde releasers, which are used in the Bionsen roll on and judging by the reaction I had, they are also in the stick. I reacted to the Dr Hauschka too, so am back to Mum and Nivea rollons.
