Hi there. Boy hasn't it been hot the last few days here in the UK. My lawn is turning yellow and the ground is baked dry. How is your garden doing? This year I am having to water my three newly planted trees, a cherry, a hop (Ptelea) and a hazelnut, every day or they will be sure to die on me. |

My garden is looking good, as I have been working on it in this hot sun.I have painted the fences and the garden furniture and has bought some gorgeous outdoor lights. Today i bought a hanging basket of baby tomatoes...they taste lovely! |

My gardens looking not too bad, had a very little rain yesterday and last night so things perked up a bit. Got a lot of plants in pots that I don't want to plant out cos its easier to water them as they are than planted in the ground. Weather supposed to change tomorrow with a bit more rain so I might get them planted out this weekend. Suziedee |

Pretty good considering the hot weather and the very scanty watering ists been gettting the past two weeks. Will have to try and get hosepipe out tomorrow, but then I hear that there is rain forecast. |

We haven't had the hot temperatures that you have experienced in the UK so my garden here in Ireland isn't looking too bad but needs a bit of TLC. The weekend is coming............... |

Luckily I have two lads who come once a fortnight to tackle the weeds. They still have a way to go but think they are winning. I have what I call a cottage garden. Afterall I live in a cottage and have shoved in shrubs and plants all along the rows. They either thrive or die but think I have picked pretty tough ones. Those that weren't went a long time ago! So it is looking pretty good, though the lavender has gone beserk! |

Hi everyone................ mine is not looking too bad. Every morning I go out and water all the garden and then again in the evening. Seems to be keeping everything going. Not many flowers and veg this year as OH is revamping garden and finishing off projects that he started last year. So we decided that we would put this year down as a loss and just concentrate on getting it organised and then start more planting next year. Hanging baskets and tubs looking good and the fruit is ripening fast and furious. |

Hi debbie Our garden isn't too bad at the moment because we've had spells of very heavy rain in the evenings. This has kept everything nice and green although some of the tubs are looking a bit battered. I'm not sure what the forecast for us today is but it's very sunny at the moment and even rooms in the house that are normally cool in the morning are uncomfortably hot. Me thinks I'm in for a lazy day - it's certainly not housework weather. Have done two loads of washing though and am now off to peg them out before I go to the shops. I'll be in this afternoon waiting for the rat man as we have rats under the shed!!! I know they've got to go but feel quite guilty as they really look quite sweet when their heads pop out from underneath. |

Mine is looking good too! I have mainly shrubs that look after themselves and don't do bedding plants (too much work!) The hanging baskets look good and I only plant trailing geraniums as they like it dry. What I am really pleased with is the produce !!! Toms, cues, beans, lettuce etc all doing well.......

Hi Ladies Don't know how I have the nerve to write in on this subject as I am a dreadful gardener. If I lived on my own I would have a flat with a balcony and have some tubs and that would be it. However, I have a wonderful OH who enjoys gardening and he works tirelessly making it look good. We have mostly shrubs as we are away more than we are here and our other pied e terre (caravan by the coast) has a garden too which requires mowing - weeding etc. In fact the garden there is better kept I reckon. Also, we are on a water meter here and no matter how hot it gets we won't use the hosepipe, that's why the shrubs are a good investment as they don't need as much care. Woody, I am envious of your produce - yum yum! |

Our garden is full of colour and scent. The rocket and spinach are being picked every day, the courgettes have loads of flowers on them and the tomatoes have flowers too. The runner beans and sweet peas are growing well too. I just love this time of year. Every time I go out into the garden I smell the lavender and the roses. |

Hi girls My garden is not looking good at the moment. I neglected it quite badly whilst getting ready for my exams. I have spent this evening with my OH trying to get the garden sorted for the wood chipping to go down. So far we are making progress. Dormouse |

My garden is looking fab, but it is all various levels of patio type stuff and stones so no grass to worry about and we are decadent and have a watering system, I won't mention the front though which is a total disaster and there is grass there,,,,,,, Carsma x |

Got a day off (and Monday too, even better) so I'm just going out to water my veggie patch before the sun hits it. Got to get the important stuff out the way first though - checking what's going on here and finishing my tea. Looks like it's going to be another scorcher here. |

Our garden is looking great this year.We have decking, a slabbed patio, and stones, and a circular patio in the centre with a bistro table and chairs on .there are two lots of tables and chairs, two benches, and lots of tubs, and shrubs. The tubs this year are planted with cream, yellow and orange and look lovely. We have a statue of Pandora, under an arch which is laden with honeysuckle and smells lovely. there is a lot of lavender in the gaden too. We're on a water meter too, but we do water every morning and late evening, otherwise all the flowers would have died off by now. |

Wow what a lot of keen gardeners and waterers you all are ![]() I think my garden looks ok apart from the dried out grass but as with any garden there are always jobs to be done. Today I am finishing off planting out the last of my bedding plants a dear friend gave me and also trimming the last few shrubs that have grown like wild fire, a Mock-orange (Philadelphus) and a Russian vine. Like the Russian tennis players this vine grows amazingly tall and is very robust. Mind you the Williams girls are both through to the final today so may be the Russians need a bit more trimming and selfcontrol

Mine is like a jungle. I was away for three weeks and everything shot up. The trees need pruning but it's the wrong time of year and I got ripped off (yet again) but some "landscapers" whose idea of regrouting is a bit like icing a cake or something. But the pond is doing well with four fish and three newts. |

Hi , Impressive accounts of veggies and so on. My garden is kind of sequential as it is smallish and I ve tried to plant for different seasons. We've had the roses and so on of early summer and now it's time to cut down finished stuff so other things can come througth. Planned to reconsider replanting shady border but been too hot and lazy to do much this wek. |

Hi and welcome newbie teechnolonger61 Going by your forum name were you a teacher by any chance? I find that once I get into the gardening mode it is hard to stop. I often am out there till it gets dark and am pottering away. Long trousers mind you or I get bitten by horse flys. No I don't talk to the plants but I talk to the cats when they decide to join me

Hi Biker_ Babe and Glitterqueen ![]() Still no rain here this week and I have just been watering the plants. Like you GQ my garden has loads of shrubs and trees that screen us off from the houses round about us. One can sit out in the sun and not feel overlooked. |

Mine's a jungle! It may be hot and dry where you are, but it's hot and wet, turn and turn about, up here on the north-east coast. I've had my first pound-and-a-half crop of cherries from the tree and will pick another load tomorrow. I went and did some weeding but I want to leave even the dying-off flowers for the bees - there aren't so many this year, so they need all the encouragement I can give them. I'm not a gardener; I have a garden - it grows, people give me plants, tell me occasionally I need to (whatever) - so I do - and nature does the rest!

Hi toffeekit. Had a bit of heavy rain over the last few days here but sadly nature isn't enough for my very dry soil right now. Your cherries crop sounds good please can I have some ![]() More rain forecast here today but nothing yet!! Brought only two plants from my days visit to the RHS Hampton Court Place Flower Show on members day Wednesday, one is a zebra grass. Some folks trugs were filled to the brim with plants but I felt that if I got a trug I would be able to stop myself from buying, then having to think about space to fit them in in the van we came in and along with the 10 other folk in our group plus their plants to! One lady had a trug full plus her OH was carrying thelarge over spill!. Had a lovely but long day there left home at 8 am and wasn't home till gone 9 pm. Plenty of celebs there at the show and saw Joe Swift plus got a photo of him ![]() One heavy down pour at around 2 pm but after that we had sun and the evening ended with a parting view of the sun going down on the bridge near by to the palace and the river glimmering.
