coffee advice, please

I will take anyone's advice! I am so fed up of my coffee, at home, not tasting as good as the stuff I drink at Caffe Nero (nero - my hero).
I have tried: espresso machine; percolator; filter machine; plunger-type jar.
It may be the blend I use (Lavazza, at the moment). It may well be the water that comes out of the tap. I don't know. But I need some coffee-flavoured advice, please.

I am a coffee lover!
You need a decent coffee machine eg Gazzia Classic and also more importantly a coffee grinder such as a Rancilio (expensive but the only way to get good coffee).
Next is to buy freshly roasted coffee beans from the internet. I'll PM you with the company I use.
Also a gaggia milk thermometer to measure the temperature of the milk correctly.
I have a fabulous coffee this way most days, other than Nero's or my local coffee shop who is a proper Barista and does all the latte art etc. Hope this helps.

I agree with Nikki2 Gaggia are the Rolls Royce of coffee making, however we love our coffee here and have a Krups machine which does filter, espresso and capuccino, we dont use the espresso/capuccino much, but OH makes filter every morning. Buying fresh beans and grinding is the best but we buy ready ground and after trying all the brands on the market have settled on - Tescos Original !! I spent a long time researching the piece of equipment I wanted, then once I had got it found the coffee we liked. Its like perfume, different people like different flavours. Also we use tap water and ordinary milk, my son is a Barista and we have tried some of his recommendations and still come back to our favourite method.

Hi Toffeekit - I don't do machine coffee - always in too much of a rush but for a really good instant, try mixing half and half of Kenco Really Rich and Decaff - it's a very good mix.

Hi Toffeekit, like Nikki2 I am a coffee lover, its my best friend every morning, but like racey (Hi racey) I dont do coffee machines either, but I have had a coffee percolator for years and I used it the other day and the coffee was perfect, and I used Kenco ground coffee, (no intentions of advertising here) but I just love good old fashion instant granuals,and usually use Nescafe granuals,but I always make sure that the water runs from the cold tap for a little while before I put it on to boil, Maybe your taste buds have outgrown your Lavazza?

Hello Anne62 - good to chat to you again and hope you are well ... I also make sure that the water is really boiling before I pour it - seems to be more "pure" if that makes any vague sense ! No logic I know but after a good cuppa, I am convinced and that is my story so I am sticking to it !

During most of the year I use Waitrose Rich Italian blend, but at Christmas time I treat myself to some coffee from Fortnum and Mason. Once you have opened the coffee it is important to store it in an airtight container.
I use water from a Britax water jug and use the water slightly off the boil (sorry, racey!). I put one heaped dessertspoon full of coffee per person into a jug and then top up with boiling water. Stir and leave to stand. I heat the milk in a saucepan and make sure it really boils and is frothy. Pour the coffee through a strainer into cups or mugs and top up with the milk.

Nescafe Alta Rica and Expresso are really good instant coffees - rich and strong. For "real" coffee, always use Lavazza Red which is perfect in a cafetiere. Cannot be faffed with fancy coffee machines: best coffee I have had was just made in a jug and strained (in France)...
Making sure the water is just off the boil gets a better brew.
For some bizarre reason Asda have all the Nescafe cru coffees for £2 a jar at the moment - almost half price... new launch I think!?

I am a really fussy coffee drinker,like it strong and black(like my men is my joking riposte!!!!)
have tried everything,all brands and makes but find Caffe Espresso(100%Arabica) sold by Lidl to be the best(and at only £1.99,sorry that`s euros ,certainly the cheapest.
