Why are my white roses pink?
|

about 7yrs ago I was given a rose bush as a birthday present and every year until now it has produced white flowers. However this year it has the most beatuful soft pink flowers, It hasn't been moved, we haven't done anything different so why the change?
Anyone got any ideas?

Are the flowers the same shape and double or have they turned single and pink? Almost all roses are grafted on to wild rose roots and it seems the wild rose stock has taken over... this usually happens if you don't remove suckers or prune the rose enough? Just a thought - do you know the variety of white rose?

I've no idea Bobcat but I've got a similar sort of mystery. I planted mixed tubs of plain purple and plain cream violas yet as the new flowers on the cream plants have started to bloom they've got lilac tips. The cream violas I mixed with yellow ones are still producing totally cream coloured flowers.

Sorry Mollymandy but I have no idea about the variety, it was a gift, the flowers look the same shape and size as before, its just the colour that has changed. Its not a big plant so we have not really had to do much prunning so maybe thats the answer, old mother nature is letting us know she is still the boss.
Duckegg, I like the sound of your lilac tipped violas, but another mystery none the less.
Thanks for your replies girls, not much gardening done today, its so wet and windy.
