Washing your Duvets.

Since I did the bedroom out I am wondering about the washing of duvet covers.
The one I bought is exactly the same material as the curtains and the bedspread - so fairly thick.
Got talking to one of the ladies in the store and she said she washes her duvet cover every week. She has a fairly thin poly/cotton duvet cover.I use a top and bottom sheet under the duvet and wondered if now, with this much thicker duvet cover, I could perhaps do it less often.
What do you other ladies do. I doubt I would even get this duvet cover in the washing machine.

I have cotton duvet cover which I wash every week. The duvet is a silk one and it says on the label that it doesn't need to be washed. (!) However, I do air my duvet and pillows on the line outside every week, weather permitting.

It sounds like you use a top and bottom sheet and a bedspread with your duvet - so may not need the same amount of washing. I just use a duvet with a cover (no top sheet) so wash the cover every week. The duvets I also wash fairly regularly the machine washable ones have to be done in extra large machine at local launderette -the others dry cleaned.

Hi, it sounds as though you use your duvet the same way as blankets, so I would wash it as fre\uently as you would have washed blankets. Most people don't bother with top sheets so duvet covers need more regular washing.

I wash all the bed linen every Monday ( a creature of habit! )..but I don't use a top sheet... as Loo says your duvet is effectively a blanket and so won't need washing loads. The airing it outside is a nice idea if you have a garden with a washing line though
