any ideas how I can rescue a pan that I almost set pasta on fire in - Yes I know but when you are doing 6 things at once like we all do things tend to get forgotten until you smell burning!! would really like to keep the pan if I can its stainless steel with a copper base - HELP!!

try filling it with a solution of bio washing powder and hot water, you may have to do it several times and you need to leave it in there for as long as it takes..

My husband did this on Christmas Day trying to make cranberry sauce. He put the sugar in the saucepan and forgot about it - the kitchen was full of smoke!
We left it to soak in soda crystals, then later in washing up liquid but my OH had to actually scrape it off, although the soaking made it easier.

If the above don't work, try a cycle through the dishwasher if you have one. Although the dishwasher won't always shift all the residue, it does loosen it off so that you can scrape it away.

I would suggest putting some Vanish powder (for washing machines) in the saucepan, adding some water and then heating it on the cooker. When it comes up to the boil, switch off and leave it overnight. Then empty the water away and scrape away all the burnt stuff you can.
You may have to repeat this, depending how badly burnt the saucepan is. You will have to use some elbow grease, but it will be worth it if you save the saucepan.

Kim and Aggie suggest soaking with cocacola overnight!
worked for my daughter when she burnt a casserole.
I have used the bio powder myself with good results.
