GLITTERQUEEN is our HERO

Yesterday Glitterqueen had problems with her boiler, and it stopped working.

Today our boiler stopped and straight away she pointed us to the correct website.

The condensate had frozen, overnight, (it was -7 here) in the outside drainage pipe, and the boiler had stopped.

Modern boilers have a pipe that takes steam away from the boiler into a drain. As well as a flue.

We thought it wouldn't freeze because it is on the house, but because it is so little, it did freeze.

OH has just taken 4" of ice out from inside the tube.

We would never have thought of that, if it had not been for GLITTERQUEEN!

WELL DONE GLIT, AND THANK YOU.

I can get on with twiddling now. (and clearing up the drips cos OH brought the 4" of ice into the house to show me!)

Re: GLITTERQUEEN is our HERO

We're thinking of having a new boiler and have been told they're all condenser boilers now.
So does that mean everytime it gets as cold, the same thing will happen?

See what you have gained from being on this forum Loo - new friends and instant advice on just about everything under the sun.
Glad you both got your boilers up and running again - I'm assuming yours is, Glitterqueen.

No, Bluebella it shouldn't happen again as We're going to change the angle, slightly of the pipe because it is almost horizontal at the moment, and lag the pipe, which will help.

It's not often as cold as it was last night either.

Re: GLITTERQUEEN is our HERO

Oh that's ok then Loo, I wouldn't fancy having to defrost the boiler each time we get a cold snap!

Re: GLITTERQUEEN is our HERO

Glad to have helped Loo. Just goes to show how useful the forum can be.

Seems so many people are having this problem atm that the manufacturers are supplying advice on the website. Anyone who needs it can find it here

http://www.worcester-bosch.co.uk/homeowner/customer-service/common-winter-boiler-enquiries

Our boiler started to sound like a boiling kettle and then went out.

Bluebella I would ask your installer about this problem and how he gets round it.
