Lisianthus, Just do what has to be done! Priorities are: Food Bathroom clean You in a relaxed state, in order to enjoy tomorow! If you haven't the energy to dust, just spray furniture polish in the air...everyone will think you've been cleaning for ages. I had a friend who used to go to absurd lengths to be perfect...even draping the whole staircase with greenery and ribbons...she used to be up until about 2am getting it all done and was in a foul mood for days before and her husband said to me that he hated the Christmas! So, isn't it better to be relaxed and make the atmosphere happy? |

Thank you, Mrs Twiddle. Will do - difficult to keep on top of things when ill, as I have 4 little dogs. Any advise on speedy floor washing please? I just don't have an energy at the moment. Janine XXX |

Cloakroom and bathroom cleaned this morning, also kitchen floor swept, one load of washing done, been out for OH medicines. Custard put on trifle, just about to put topping on. Hoovered all downstairs and generally put things away. Now I can relax till Saturday. I NEVER TWIDDLE FOR 2 DAYS over xmas, just sit, eat, drink, relax and do whatever I want to do. Lisianthus............you poor thing. I feel for you as I have had it as well. Thankfully now over it after 3 weeks but OH went down with it today. Hope you soon feel better. Leave housework health is more important and you need to keep your strength up to fight it. If it bothers anyone else just point them in the direction of the hoover, duster and floor mop!!!! Will be twiddling loads in new year. |

Mrs T it stems back to when we were kids and my Dad was always working on Xmas day so we always had our main Xmas dinner on Xmas Eve. Having married a policeman who for many years was also working on the 25th I just carried on the tradition. I absolutely love it... We still down to eat at 6 o'clock sharp and stay round the table chatting for ages. Then it's a warm bubbly bath for D (8) before the ritual of the Mince Pie and Carrot etc. Then she's off to bed and we load the pressies round the tree. The beauty of it is once today is over I sooo look forward to tomorrow knowing my job is done. We have a huge brekkie in the morning courtesy of OH and then I lay out the table with all cold goodies, pickles, cheese etc and the day is stress free... I am not chained to the kitchen and can totally enjoy my kids on the day help D with anything she wants me to do... (S is 19 so he doesn't really need any help any more but I used to love helping him build his lego on the day instead of rushing out to the kitchen to check on the dinner) Anyway that's the story behind it.... By the way dinner is at 6 sharp so you are very welcome...see you soon!!! |

Actually, I have now downed a rather large Baileys! Bedroom done, shower room/ensuite still to do then a nice load of ironing after washing the kitchen floor! Serves me right for spending too much time here this week ![]() Come on ladies, one more push and we'll get it all done! |

Juat the ironing and that can wait until after a very large glas of wine! Thanks for keeping me company ladies, see you soon! |

Just read this Sallykins and I think your Christmas sounds absolutely lovely. And, how easy is today for you! Carrot and mince pie brings back happy memories when my daughter and nephew were little. I still remember the amazement on their faces when they saw the crumbs and bit of carrot left on the hearth. I have managed to arrange it that I do a proper fish dinner for Christmas Eve and then do the whole turkey dinner thing for Christmas Day - I still can't figure out how it all landed on me for the last few years! |
Sallykins - thanks for explaining your family tradition. We used to have a traditional lunch and then a full supper on Christmas Day. It was non stop eating!!. Once my mother died, we changed things and just have a late Christmas lunch (about 4.30pm) and then on Boxing Day we eat all the cold cuts, salads, pickles, garlic bread etc. So much nicer! It's interesting how family traditions evolve isn't it? issi - you seem to have drawn the short straw!!!! and sorry to say that if you have done it for several years, you have now started a family tradition!!! Hi does anyone have a tried and tested receipe for a small gammon joint? i'm thinking of soaking it or pre-boiling it and then finishing it off in the oven with some kind of glaze a la Nigella or Delia. any tips or hints greatly appreciated!! |

Hi Pandagirl and welcome. One of the Hairy BIkers cooked a gammon on last weeks Saturday Kitchen which sounded woderful. He placed it in a big pot filled with Pineaple juice. Try BBC website for recipe. Hope to see you here soon. Rainbow.x |

Hi all Well it is saturday and I had great intentions when I went to bed last night that I was going to spend the day tidying up....................................... but as usual I got on this laptop and that was that. Now it is 15.40 in the afternoon and all I have done is empty dishwasher, got dressed and been to chemist for some more cough stuff. So I am making a pact with myself that I am packing this laptop in its case tonight AND I WILL NOT TAKE IT OUT TILL TUESDAY!!!!!! That way I can get on with things................so much to do. For now I will just sit here the rest of today and continue on the forum.................that I way I will get enough to last me without getting withdrawal symptoms. If anyone sees me on here tomorrow or Monday please throw me off................ |

Hi Mrs Twiddley Dee I have been twiddling all day on and off but now I have stopped. I am cleaned and cleared my bedroom of clutter and dusted top to bottom. Also did three loads of washing as I changed my bed sheets. Off to get my glad rags sorted but also a warm winters coat I think will be needed here this chilly night. All our family have been invited out to a friends post Christmas party. OH's turn to drive so hopefully a chance to have a cherry b or may be two or even three yippee

It's not often I can say this but, Mrs Twiddle, you'd be proud of me. I've cleaned out my kitchen cupboards, sorted through old magazines, tidied my bedroom drawers, done some tree pruning, sifted through the understairs cupboard, done some mending, written thank-you letters and done goodness knows how many loads of washing. My daughters have also tackled (operative word!) their rooms and they are almost accessible for cleaning - quick blast of the Hallelujah Chorus! Twiddling's quite therapeutic, isn't it? |
Wow, marymary, I'm amazed! You've done lots! I've cleaned the kitchen, washed the floor, done about three loads of washing, now doing some ironing and keeping an eye on the forum. Taken steaks out of the freezer for an easy dinner and now having a cuppa and my first piece of Christmas cake! Oh, turned the lights on in the garden too to make it look festive outside! |
I've not got back into the habit of twiddling yet...OH actually leaves the house tomorrow for a day in the office so I may get the hoover out and flick a duster about...I suspect twiddling will only return in its old, familiar form next Monday... |
omg I'm exhausted!!! Twiddled most of yesterday and again today - think I'm preparing for the New Year. Yesterday I cleaned out 2 big storage cupboards on my landing (sorted and threw loads of stuff in the bin). Sorted out all my bedding and chucked the old, grotty things. I also tidied the airing cupboard. Today I have pulled out EVERY cupboard in my kitchen washed them and put everything back - in a different place of course!! OH will go potty when he gets in from work as he won't be able to find anything ha ha!! I've also done 3 loads of washing and made a white chocolate cheesecake!!! Are you proud of me ladies???? |
and I thought I was being good having done all the ironing! |
Stop it! It's the holidays! Sit down, have a drink. You're all making me dizzy. Today is a time for reflection, so go reflect and put the duster down! |

I've twiddled the whole house today Mrs T. All decs down and put away...bathroom and cloakroom scrubbed (by Mr C. I must admit), everywhere polished and hoovered. Now I'm just dyeing my eyelashes...and I'm going to try my new epilator later on...how many points do I get??? |
Give us a shout when the epilator gets plugged in, we'll hold your hand. Owwwwww! |

and tomorrow....... I plan to do my filing (I have a pile of paperwork thats been waiting to be put away for ages), clean the cooker and sort out the mess under the stairs..... I promise not to twiddle on the 1st but I'm back to work on the 2nd so it has to be done sometime.Off to have a soak in the bath now before I start the tea. BB xx |

Mrs Twiddle, I have done quite a bit of twiddling today, hoovered all the way through, cleaned all bathrooms/toilets, prepared food for tomorrow night, so all in all Im completely shattered now, and am looking forward to a gin and tonic when MOH comes in. Plasmo x |

I went food shopping this morning and wrote and posted my thank you letters. I chatted on the phone to my sister and then watched the Miss Marple film on television while I knitted. I also prepared some blackberry and apple jelly from the freezer and it is now dripping through ready to be made into jelly tomorrow morning. Compared to the rest of you I have had quite a twiddle free day. I am back to work on Monday, so will be catching up now the rest of the week. |
I shopped, hoovered, dusted, tidied up generally, did two loads of washing, cleaned the bathroom and washed the curtains as well as watching Miss Marple and playing here...am exhausted now, might not make it to midnight... |
