MINCE PIES

Every year as long as I can remember I have made my own mince pies, with varying degrees of success. I have never found any ready made that I liked. Yesterday in Morrisons I impulse bought some of their shortcrust ones which I think are made in store, they are utterly delicious and I won't be bothering to make my own now. Give them a try.

Re: MINCE PIES

I've never been any good with pastry - I made a batch of mince pies years ago and they were so vile, you could have bounced them on the pavement, the pastry was so horrible! Nowadays,it's the shop bought variety every time - usually M&S, but I actually bought some award winning ones from the Co Op today, and they were pretty yummy!

Penni,
Absolutely agree about Morrisons. Went there today just to buy the mince pies. Everyone else I have asked agrees that they are the best they have tasted in a long time. Apparently they won 1st prize too on This Morning.

Re: MINCE PIES

WE had Morrisons ones at our WI Dec meeting!!! Fancy WI ladies buying Mince pies!!! However we are not all domestic godesses(we do other things instead!) and we all agreed the Morrisons are extremely good. I personally have imposed a ban for myself on them this year......I find them more and more indigestible and after all they are full of the dreaded calories and Cholesterol!!!Thats my excuse....it gets really difficult to refuse them though as hostesses always seem affronted if you refuse! Why should we be expected to eat things we do not want?!! Does anyone else find this to be the case?

Mayday

Re: MINCE PIES

My nearest Morrisons is Banbury so I shan't make a special trip. Faves so far are the Co-op's.

Nice to see you about Gill. Hopefully there will be another Stratford after Christmas.

Re: MINCE PIES

This morning, on a whim, I baked my own - repeat - baked my own - mince pies! OK I'm not that good, I used a ready rolled shortcrust pastry and bought a jar of the most basic mincemeat. I made a dozen pies with lattice pastry tops, sifted icing sugar on top and served them up warm to the chap doing my garden. If I say so myself they were really good. What gets me is that every year I make mince pies and I am always buying jars of "luxury" mincemeat. The simple ones I made today were much nicer.
