Do you still have a roast every Sunday?

Do you still cook a roast on Sundays?
I did it for about 25 years 'cos my family loved it so much.

Now I don't, unless, like today, my YS and adorable GS are here for lunch.
It just seems to take all morning to cook and a lot of time to clear up!

No, not every Sunday, especially not in the summertime. But there's nothing I like better than cooking a roast on a winter Sunday, warm kitchen, lovely smells and a delicious meal at the end.

Because I was expecting wet and miserable weather today we're having roast pork with apple sauce with our own apples, plus home grown cabbage and green beans. I feel very comforted by cooking a meal on a Sunday and OH enjoys the results.

Made a banoffee pie yesterday and an apple crumble. Jamaican ginger cake in the oven and I'm going to make cherry and coconut loaf. MangeTout is definitely the right forum name for me!

Oh, here comes the rain.........

No, not often. It's reserved for the occasional treat or if we have family over...it's the sort of meal best shared with others as I never know what to do with the leftover meat ... another bit of lost knowledge. Remember the days when you were still eating the sunday joint on Wednesday...?

Yes we do most Sunday's even in the summer( window's open)! I have two fussy eaters and really enjoy cooking the Sunday roast as I know they will eat this. I've even taken to a roast on a week day too which really throws them!

I love baking but never seem to have the time and even less since discovering forum. Mange tout wish I was like you.

Most Sundays unless we are out for the day. I tell my children that when they leave home I will cook roast dinner every Sunday to encourage them to come and visit.

Hardly ever unless we have my Dad or MIL over. We rarely eat at lunchtime on Sunday anyway as generally there is no one at home. My sons both play football on Sunday and its easier to serve food around 7pm.

Having said then when I do cook it, (and that's sometimes mid week)- its very well received with empty plates.

Re: Do you still have a roast every Sunday?

I heard someone complaining about this on the radio, funnily enough the other day. i.e. 'where has Sunday lunch gone' As with a few others, we don't really do Sunday lunch in summer but I do in the colder months, especially in deepest winter. I also love to have the kitchen warm with the oven on,have a pre-dinner glass of dark red wine. I find that it's nice to eat earlier in the dark months and get it over with to settle down to some good (?) Sunday night TV. On that subject where had all the good TV gone???

My fav. roast - a beef pot roast ( with home-made suet dumplings) done in the pressure cooker - old fashioned way of cooking but truly wonderful with very tasty results.

I love winter! Well, up to February anyway, then I'm sick of it!
