Ceramic hobs.....

Can anyone give me advice about cleaning a ceramic hob? Although it looks nice and shiny, on closer inspection there are discoloured rings around the heating areas. Has anyone found a steam cleaner to work well?

My ceramic hob is well over three years old and apart from one or two small scratches it still looks almost like new. I mainly use Hob brite to clean it but have also used Cif cream from time to time which seems to do the job just as well.

I use hob brite from John Lewis or Waitrose on kitchen paper. Rub it on to clean. Wipe off with another very wet piece of kitchen paper and buff up with towel. Also a razor blade in a scraper that you get for cleaning paint splashes off the windows works very well at the stubborn blobs.
I've had my Ceramic hob 12 years and its still perfect but I do clean it everytime I use it. Salt will scratch the surface if you get it under a pan and then slide the pan around.

Hi and another vote for HobBrite!
I too clean my hob everyday. It is important to remove any stains immediately. I have a razor blade scraper like loo too. I use it as required. I've had hobs for about 10 years and would never go back to a conventional hob.

Hob brite for me too. I use my steam cleaner on the oven, but I've never had the need to try it on the hob - I might give it a go next time I've got it out. My hob is about twenty years old.

Yep. Hob brite for me too. I inherited my ceramic hob from the previous owner of the house and she also left me a little scraper which looks as if it would scratch it but doesn't! It gets rid of all the burnt on stuff

Thank you girls for your suggestions. Have been afraid to use Cif (or similar) in case it was too abrasive and left scratches, but have used some 'all purpose' spray liquid cleaners. It is the little burned on bits that are causing me the problem so I shall try the razor blade method. I won't leave him indoors in charge of cooker again while I am out at work!

Glass scraper and Hob brite. Hob brite is specially formulated for ceramic hobs so when you rinse it off and buff up your hob it will look like new. I find it slightly better than Cif.
