I have to confess at the begining of this post that I buy ready-made sponge puds....they are good and easy and that way I don't end up eating so much myself but OH's school pud desires can be indulged. That's my excuse anyway....and yes I do know how to make them.....don't like the kitchen full of steam tho' I must say. Anyway.....Reason for post? I have just looked carefully at the carton on the sticky toffee pud bought from Sainsburys last w/end......can't we make puds in England any more? This one FLEW all the way from ....wait for it.......New Zealand!!! I am horror struck! and I bought it!!!!who would think to look for the food miles on a sticky toffee pud.?? I think I feel a letter to Sainsburys coming on! Has anyone else noticed this pud phenomena? The brand name is "Aunty's" made for Old Fashioned Foods (uk)ltd. Anyone join in on letter writing? I am truly horrified. Roses flown from Kenya are one thing but sticky toffee puds from New Zealand I just can't believe! ![]() Mayday |

Hi Mayday Your post has made me think too. I will be looking at the country of origin as well as the ingredients, E numbers and price when I go shopping next time! Foxie |

Hi Everyone, Dont be taken in either when you see the union jack on products, that can sometimes just mean that the product was packed and distributed in the the UK, it doesnt necessarily mean it is British Meat. There is some other indicator on the packets, I cant remember exactly but I think it is a tractor or something, that indicates that the product was sourced and packed in the UK. If I havent got it right and someone knows I would be grateful if you could let us know. Plasmo x |

Foxie, Yes I do realise shopping can be so slow if we all look so closely at every single packet....impossible really! BUT the occasional letter to these big supergiants may help to make them stop and think.....maybe? I still can't get over sponge puddings coming from New Zealand!!!! Mayday |
