grandmother available

I've heard of an organisation bringing together women who wish to act as grandmothers to children without them. Could anyone please give me the name and contact details of such an organisation?

What a lovely idea. My kids have lost both natural grandmas but consider an older friend of mine as their honorary granny and she comes to all celebrations. Hope someone can help you with details.

I heard of such a scheme a long time ago but nothing about it recently. However, if you are interested in helping young people, providing adult support and guidance consider volunteering for Action for Children they need people who will mentor young people in all parts of the country, its very rewarding. That sounds like a great scheme. I think it would really benefit the children and the honorary grandparents. I lost my grandparents when I was young and I would have loved to have been part of this scheme

If you find out then please post details. I have a 2 year old whose Grandparents are in France and Belgium. It would be really nice to have someone more local for her.

If you want to find out if there is such a scheme (– these are sometimes called mentoring, buddy or befriending schemes) in your area either to use or to volunteer with your local Volunteer Centre will probably have details. You can find your local centre by visiting www.do-it.org.uk. Where I live I volunteer for a local youth befriending scheme and see a young girl for a few hours at the weekend or during the school holidays – it’s great fun. This scheme takes volunteers of all ages so not just geared up to grandmother figures.
