Hi, my son who is 13 got a paper round today and his brother now wants a job. He's 15 and doesn't want a paper round so what are his options? What sort of a job can a 15 year old do? |

Car cleaning or similar? My OH used to have a lad that came every Saturday for 4 hours, to clean his motorbike. After 2 hours he used to say "I've finished". OH would have a look, and say no you need to do this bit. This went on for a further 2 hrs. Lad seemed quite happy with this arrangement and OH had clean motorbike eventually. Loo |

I grew up in the countryside so apart from picking up eggs and packing at the local egg farm the only option was the local pub. I couldn't stand the sound and smell of the hens so when I was 15 I worked in the kitchens of the local pub a couple of evenings a week. The work included waiting and washing up with a bit of cooking (the landlady taught all her part-timers how to prepare and cook some of the items on the menu). Most pubs stop serving food by 9 so it's only ever two or three hours for a shift at most. Some of my friends (male and female) did cleaning or gardening on Saturday mornings and babysitting - they got work by putting a card in the village shop. If you're in a town perhaps shop work would be an idea. Are there any shops in the area that offer weekend work? Clothes shops are a good option as they'll give a staff discount (useful for teenagers) or music shops if he's interested in music. |

Perhaps check out what 15 year olds are allowed to do re-working from the web. Might give some ideas as well as legal position with national insurance etc. Search "children working" for some good ones Loo |

My 13-year old helped out at a Cattery for a bit. Nightmare hours - 8am 'til 10am, but she liked earning her own cash. Didn't last long tho' as she's not the easiest of people to get up in the morning! |

Hi I know a boy friend of my daughters used to mow peoples lawns at 15. Or what about babysitting? Think you have to be 16 to work in a shop, I know my daughter found that. |

My daughter wnated a job from the age of 13...independant miss!! she kept getting told you are too young so on her 15 birthday she went round all the cafes in our little town and came away with a job and in a couple of weeks she will have been there 2 years!! She has now decided she wnats a better paid job but at least she will avae had experience and will get a reference......she is still independant....she has brought all her own clothes since the age of 15 and goes mad even if a insist on buying uniform etc..... I think it does them good to work ....teaches them social skills and gives them confidence in dealing with adults.... Sorry what was the question??? Your son could get a job in a cafe washin up...... There are laws about how many hours children can work. Although 15 year olds can legally work, the hours restrictions means they can't do a full day and thats why shops want them to be 16. |

My daughter got her first job at 14 - cold calling in a call centre! 3 evening shifts of 3 hours, 3 nights a week, plus commission if she got a lead. Only for 6 weeks during the school holidays. EX and I has just split, and he wasn't providing any maintenance so she decided to get a job so I didn't need to give her pocket money. Even offered to give me half towards housekeeping. Totally illegal, but I let her do it. Quite proud of her really After that she had a job in a chip shop on Friday nights - hard work, but the money was good, and she loved tha atmosphere. ..wispa then a supermarket. |

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've passed them on to him to think about. Personally I like the doggy ideas. Might have to get a second job myself! |
