I read this book on a recent weekend in Spain with some girlfriends. They told me I was being most anti-social spending all my time glued to a book! Yes I enjoyed it too and didnt expect the twist at the end.

Brilliant book! One of those that you can't stop reading, but don't actually want to finish cos it's so good. Does that make sense? lol

Dreadful book............I've come to the conclusion that anything that is pushed by the media is rubbish.
I nearly always finish something even if I don't enjoy on the basis that I can give my honest opinion.
This book, and a thousand splendid suns are the worst books I have ever read oh and The Kite Runner.

Chipmunk I was very inyerested to read your comments about The house at Riverton, and could fully understand them, but when you then mentioned the other two as well I was a bit surprised. Can I ask what books you have enjoyed, just to get a feel of other peoples choices really?I do aggree that a lot of media hype books very often turn out to be quite disapointing.

Hi nannieconnie,
I was'nt slating anyone elses choices of books by the way, just voicing my opinion on books that had been recommended and I had read.
Recent reads that I've enjoyed are,
Lesley lokko Bitter Chocolate
Kate Ellis The Shining Skull
June Hampson Broken Bodies
Rosie Thomas Ruby & Iris
A few of my friends were surprised that I had not enjoyed A Thousand Splendid Suns and the Kite Runner, but I found them so depressing. I suppose if we all liked the same thing it would be boring.

Re: The House at Riverton by Kate Morton

I'm afraid The House at Riverton became a chore for me, but I was determined to finish it and was glad when I finally came to the end.

As Chipmunk commented, wouldn't the world be a boring place if we all liked the same kind of books. Thank goodness there is such a wide selection of novels for us to read.
