please can you help

please can you tell me what would be a really good read,as i havent read for some time and am finding it hard to get back into reading, think having to wear glasses now has made it less enjoyable. the last couple of books i read and relly enjoyed were S Faulks birdsong.b.bainbridge the bottle factory.and anne tyler the accidential tourist.all these three books i found really great and couldnt wait to turn each page. so i would be most grateful if you could suggest a really good book that i would find hard to put down from the start.
thank you for your time

love

Re: please can you help

Hi oliveoil,
Try anything by Patrick Gale. Also 'the kite runner' and 'a thousand splendid suns'
I hate having to look for my glasses when I want to read - I've ended up with pairs all over the place

Have a look at our Online Forum Book Club.Emerald has posted a list of books for the next 6 months. They have all been chosen by Forum members and I have been introduced to many new books this way. The reviews are good and give you a idea about the book before you read it.
Happy reading!

Hi Oliveoil
I agree with the above. Would also recommend Kate Morton's House at Riverton and The Forgotten Garden. She is a brilliant writer and so easy to 'get into,.
Like Anne I have specs all over the place (need specs to find specs -how awful is that)

Re: please can you help

Hi Oliveoil

Have you tried those page magnifyers, they are great for us
that find our power of sight diminishing and are a good page marker as well. You can get them in most gimmicky shops and WHSmith type places, although I got mine in Woolies.
Good reads at the moment = Shafted by Manadsue Heller, curl up on the sofa or in bed nice and warm and get page turning. OR try a rip roaring read and funnily written auto biography by Paul O'Grady At my mothers Knee and other low points, It is hilarious and more to the point near to most persons life prospectives and mind boggling funny.
Hope this helps
Happy reading
Good luck

If you enjoy a feel good read, and a family saga with rambling homes abroad, in the style of the Shell Seekers by Roasamund Pilcher, you will love The Venetian House by Mary Nickson, also her other book Secrets and Shadows. I couldn't put them down.

Re: please can you help

By the way - have any of you spec searchers tried contact lenses. Yes I was forever searching for my specs too, until I needed one pair to read another pair to look around me plus sunglasses, it nearly drove me crazy!! Contacts have changed my life it has made SUCH a difference not to have to think about my specs!
