FOR WRITERS - It's time for a new title.
|
|
Come on you slackers! There are no rules, anyone can join in, all you need is an opening line and see where it takes you:
Abi stepped forward, gritted her teeth and .....

k8tie, although we've done the kind of thing your thinking of over on Your Lives a few times (a bit like Consequences), on the "For Writers" threads, which have lapsed a bit recently, the idea has been that we write a short story, or part thereof, containing 100 words, and starting with the first line as posted by, in this case, issi.
So now you only need another 85!

Abi stepped forward, gritted her teeth and stared into the abyss. Who on earth had told her that a charity sky dive would be a good idea? Who on earth had persuaded her that she could do it? What a dumb, stupid excuse for a woman she was. She quivered and quaked, she felt faint as she gripped the parachute cord. Then, before she had time to be sick she was out! Gliding through the air everything became silent and calm. Expertly she opened her parachute and prepared to land. "I am fantastic, I am superb, I am a brave feisty woman," she thought. As she landed with a bump she laughed as she saw her friends running towards her.

Abbi stepped forward, gritted her teeth and told herself "I can do this". After all other people managed to do it all the time. Sue had persuaded her to come along tonight but, just as she was coming into the room, she had had a text from Sue to say she was running late and would be along later. Finally she had reached the end of the chairs and had stepped onto the scales for her first weigh in at a slimming club.

Abi stepped forward, gritted her teeth, and forced herself to speak. "I have an objection. He's still married to me." She was concentrating so hard on summoning her nerve that she didn't know if she had said the words out loud, or just thought them.
Then she saw the vicar's face, showing a mixture of emotions; shock, confusion, uncertainty, and she realised that she had spoken aloud. Suddenly, everybody in the church was turning round to look at her. Her words seemed to echo in the silence. The bride looked stunned, uncomprehending, the make-up standing out on her white face. But Thomas didn't turn round.

Sky diving, slimming club and bigamy. Not bad so far. Brenda, if yours was the start of a story I would really want to read on.
