EDINBURGH BOOK GROUP How about Notes from an Exhibition by Patrick Gale for next meeting?

I think that sounds fine. I read the back cover the other day in the library - it will be interesting to see if we can all read that one!!! I am delighted, at least the decision is now made; I had looked at the W&H reviews but never got round to doing anything, so well done you. Your rather cryptic message the other day - what was that about? A review in magazine..... I did laugh - our success rate, as a book group has been pretty poor so far. Hope you are well, and I am looking forward to seeing you tomorrow. |

That sounds fine Pat. Hope you "DO IT" book clubbers read it all this time!!!! since I was the ONLY one to plough through our last book

Fine with me too. I'll be off to Waterstone's tomorrow (any excuse) and as I'm off all next week there will be absolutely no excuse for me not to have read it in time. Look forward to seeing you all tomorrow evening.xcx |

Oh ye of little faith. VPBP here (work it out!). I have already read the book so at least a quarter of us have read it. Nothing wrong with our book group, we're the most successful W&H bookgroup in Edinburgh! I'll tell you tomorrow about the other BG I went to last week and you'll shudder and be jolly glad you're a member of the Just Do It BG. A majority decision has been taken regarding the other communication I sent you earlier. tried to get an expenses paid trip to London for all of us - failed miserably. Doesn't bode well for the Training Guide I'm writing at the moment - Negotiation Skills! See you> Petrushka aka Pat |

You've only just got it!! I'm half way through it. And then, I shall return to the other one.... maybe |

![]() Hi there book worms. I only recently got around to reading a book I had brought last year and only due to being off work and on bed rest. No gardening, no chores and no shopping. Normally I buy books intending to read them but end up leaving them on the shelf and unread. I would love to think I could belong to such a club as yours but honestly I don't think I would do the reading as I appear to have got out of the habit. The most I have managed lately and am doing now is reading the Sunday Times cover to cover apart from the Sports section In my book The Sunday Times (yes I know it isn't a book) but still it is no mean reading feat by any standards including mine I feel ![]() By the way a big hello to Christine and Karen_Fiona from me Debbie

Much as I hate one upmanship I've read it and found it very inspirational. Mentioned it to the girl at the MAC counter today in HNs and she's also read it and was raving about it. Do you think we should put an announcement on the Forum to get more people or should leave it as it is? Good luck with your move. Have you heard from FiFi59 re walking? Pat |

Got a PM wishing me well in my move,but no metion of walking,however I did say I would get in touch with her once I had moved. I personally don't think it would do us any harm to advertise, it would be nice to see some new faces and get others feedback. Would you like to do it or do you want one of us to ? Hope all is well with you and your keeping ok. Barbara |

Hi Barbara. I'm happy if someone else wants to advertise it. I'm still pretty busy with work and the Film Festival. Got my Film Director staying for the entire festival. He's cute and we're having great chats about movies and life. His movie has been well received which is great. Being from the Deep South he has addressed me as 'Ma'am' on several occasions (he lives in LA now). Takes me back to the '70s when I lived in South Vietnam with a guy in the miltary from Georgia - very 'Officer and Gentleman'. Not quite Rhett Butler but oh the voice!!! |
||||||||
|
|
|||||||
|
Careful there ma'am. Does your film director sound like Rhett Butler too??? Thank goodness he hasn't lost his manners since moving to LA. Hope you are keeping well and not overworking. Oh am I allowed to feel smug? Am I exonerated from my dismal choice of first book? Will I be allowed back or, indeed, to choose another book some time in the future? SBQ - hope the packing is not too onerous and you're allowed out occasionally. When is D-Day? |

Hi, I've thoroughly enjoyed the book. Unusual but never dismal. Trying to pace my work between booking events for festival ad seeing films. My postman ysterday told me that Sean Connery tickets for the Book Festival are now changing hands for £100 a time - makes my Leonard Cohen concert ticket seem peanuts. My FD told me yesterday that he was sitting with SC at lunch and SC had a bowl of pasta - it seems real men do eat Pasta and Quiche. Did you know the Edinburgh Film Festival is the oldest in the world. My guy now looks exhausted as of course it's a working trip for him. Interesting to get an insight into other people's working life. Enjoy Vienna, hope the sun shines for you. SBQ - easy for me to say I know but in my experience of moving, which is vast, it always gets done in the end so there's little point in worrying and if it's where you want to be it's worth it. Good luck. |

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am half way through reading the "Outcast” ( which is no mean feat!) when it dawned on me that Barbara had wanted to read something else, and for the life of me I can’t think what it was. On speaking with SBQ, I am no further forward and she too has had a memory lapse……………………. So if either of you two ladies can recall the title I would greatly appreciate if you could let me in on the secret!! How are you doing? I hope you are well, and looking forward to Friday. Where I hope to partake in one or two (jugs!) of delicious Margarita’s ………………….mme !! I am intending to come through on the train, for no other reason that I do not think I will get parked that easily !!! Pat, this is spooky I was just going to ask how the Leonard Cohen concert was, when I realised “Marianne” was playing on the Steve Wright show. Any way this chit chat is not getting my work, if someone could post the book title – I‘d be eternally grateful, unless of course it is rotten. Look forward to seeing you both on Friday |

Hi Christeen - you poor soul. I've only read 2 chapters of The Outcast and that was enough. The book is 'The Mistress's Daughter' by A M Homes. I have of course read it and written a critical essay on it!! Only joking - I've only read 1 chapter so far - too busy. Leonard was superlative - worth every penny, a god among men. Still very sexy, kind and funny and it didn't rain until the last 10 minutes. See you on Friday - I will not be partaking in the Margeritas unfortunately - medical reasons. Booked for 8 people. |
