Marley and Me by John Grogan

Due to be released as a film at the end of this year, Marley and Me is not just the story of a dog but of a young couple starting their lives together.

The book follows Marley, a lunatic labrador, from puppyhood to old age. However, it is much more than a book about a dog. It is about loyalty and the joy that can be found in the simplest things.

This book is a joy to read and not just for those who love dogs . Marley will stay in your heart for a long time. I loved that dog.

Can't wait to see the film, the book was brilliant I fell in love with Marley too. I read this over a year ago and still think about this book often, my friend has just bought a golden lab, and she is running true to form. If you get a chance I would recommend this book whole heartedly

Re: Marley and Me by John Grogan

I read this book and cried most of the night when I got near to the end. I could relate to so much and felt that Marley must have known my dog in another life!!

I miss my dog every moment of every day and have never really got over his death following a short battle with cancer. This bbok made me smile again, I always thought I had the naughtiest puppy in the world but perhaps I shared the honour!!!

Another book I loved was "From Baghdad with Love" just goes to show that in the midst of carnage and death there is to be found love and compassion from the toughest of men. Give it a try.

If you like 'doggy' books (I have read both of the above), try 'A Friend Like Henry' by Nuala Gardner. I have always had golden retrievers, so really understood how close Henry and his autistic 'friend' became. Another good read.

I enjoyed the book on the whole, though not as much as I'd hoped, and I did get a wee bit of eye leakage when it was time to say goodbye to Marley - but any of us with dogs and have been through it would empathise with that.

For me, I would've preferred a little more Marley and a little less 'And Me'.

Our yellow lab is as psychotic as Marley, so spare us a thought while you're chuckling smugly with your well behaved pooch at your feet!!!

My sister bought me this for christmas last year, and i loved it. Being a dog person I could identify with the personality of Marley (we have a schnauzer cross terrier and he is Victor Meldrew in dog form!!) and also cried for most of the last few chapters!

Highly recommended.

By coincidence, my best buddy gave me a copy of Marley and Me last night! I am a 'doggy' person with my own 13 year old X Breed...(who has just started to slow down & is rapidly going deaf). My buddy said that I must read this book, especially now, with my 'constant companion' entering his twilight years!! I guess I should keep the tissues handy?

I sooooo loved this book...also made me laugh and cry it's a book I will always remember for the rest of my life.. reminds me so much of my lab Mason. (all labs are the same I think....care only about food, sleep and getting up to mischief!!)even in old age.

My husband is currently reading Marley and me. He collapses with laughter and just has to read that particular passage to me. Hope I haven't spoilt my coming read. Marley has very, very similar behaviour traits to our Boxer, Francismonster. Hence my husband finding the book so hilarious. We've been there, got the T shirt but not the film rights!!!!!

I loved this book, and like your OH I could not stop laughing, I think many people can see traits of their dogs in Marley. I have a loopy springer who when younger could fit the bill on many an exploit.
